About us
Interreg Europe project PLASTIX facilitates industrial transition towards a resource-efficient economy, circular economy growth and eco-innovations in participating regions, and in other European regions. The project tackles the growing problem of plastic waste, its recyclability and its replaceability as a part of the transition towards a more circular economy. All European regions are facing similar plastics challenges: consumption of huge amount of plastics, their recyclability, reusability and replaceability with bio-based raw materials, as well as microplastics are issues that need to be solved. Furthermore, waste plastic also causes climate change.

Interested in developing sustainable materials and solutions especially for paper and paperboard barrier coating applications as well as guiding and encouraging students to work with instrumental analysis in chemistry.
I had the pleasure to participate as a stakeholder in the On-Site Deep Dive (OSDD) of #PLASTIX project in Slovenia on the 5 and 6 March 2024. From Finland, Johanna Vannes and Johanna Alakerttula, who work on the project, participated in the event with me. Thanks for the fabulous travel companion! The event offered me a great opportunity to network with people interested in the circular economy and sustainability of plastics.

Boy, have we got our work cut out for us... One of the things we are working with within our Interreg Europe project is the #CircularBenchmarkTool and adapting it to the plastic sector. Such an interesting task but also very complex and challenging. The tool will assist regions in (self-)assessing how well they are doing in terms of plastic circular economy, what needs to be done better or differently, and what we can all learn together and from each other. Today, we had yet another good discussion on the topic with the professional facilitation by Bart Volkers and Anne Rademaker from ProActBlue. Yes, we can 💪 ♻ 💡 #plastics #circulareconomy #circularity #sustainability

On the 15th March 2024, in Tampere (Finland), #PLASTIX partners The Baltic Institute of Finland and The Council of Tampere Region / Pirkanmaan liitto - organised an event for the regional and national stakeholders of the project. In addition to the project updates and some highlights from the #PLASTIX state-of-play analysis (link in the comments), the following enlightening presentations were delivered to the participants: ⭐ Maarit Särkilahti / Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto talked about collecting and utilising plastic waste from the perspective of a municipal waste company. ⭐Maria Jokinen os. Matintalo / Hyötykeräys & Hyötypaalaus presented the pilot on collecting rigid plastics from households and future plans. ⭐Samuli Hellemaa / Molok Ltd shared ambitious goals and related challenges in using recycled plastics in waste container production. ⭐Mikko Ahokas / MACON OY talked about recent investments in plastic waste handling. There was such a huge amount of experience and knowledge in the room (and online) that the organizers - Johanna Alakerttula & Johanna Vannes - cannot wait until the next opportunity to discuss and learn more again 🤩 #plastics #circulareconomy #sustainability Interreg Europe
