Erik Lightner and Jay Nelson represented Platinum Crush LLC yesterday at a town hall meeting in Storm Lake, Iowa with Senator Charles Grassley and hosted by Iowa Central Community College. Topics of discussion ranged from workforce development to foreign policy to farm bills and included multiple local businesses. Much of our discussion focused on the proliferation of the importation of used cooking oil from China being used in the manufacture of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel in the United States. The legitimacy of these imported oils is a valid concern whether they are actually used cooking oils or a subsidized way for China to dump fresh palm oil into the US. As these oils continue to pour into the United States, they are displacing farmer grown and US processor produced #biofuels. Led by Nick Bowdish we have worked closely with Iowa Renewable Fuels Association National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA) and others to bring light to situation and ask for actions to be taken be our elected federal officials Joni Ernst Pete Ricketts and government agencies US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) USDA to protect the American farmer and producer from Chinese manipulation. Appreciated the opportunity to talk with Rebekah Alvey with Agri-Pulse Communications about the skyrocketing volumes of imported feedstocks that continue to come into the U.S. and are displacing farmer grown #biofuels. From Jan 1, 2023-May 31, 2024 alone a total of 7.4 billion pounds of foreign Used Cooking Oil and foreign tallow entered the U.S which is equivilent the amount of soybean oil crushed from over 600 million bushels of U.S. #soybeans. Federal tax credits such as 45Z are anticipated to further exasperate the problem and as such the National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA) continue to push for a fix. Read more here:

The momentum of a safe and successful start-up at Platinum Crush LLC in May continued to grow in June during our first full month of operation. New crush records were set and reset multiple times throughout the month producing consistently high-quality soybean meal and oil as full plant capacity was achieved. All team members worked safely and when faced with various challenges: rose up, worked together, and found innovative ways to keep the plant running when adversity struck. What a month of May it has been for Platinum Crush LLC! We "Crushed It" by achieving substantial completion, successfully starting up our new greenfield plant, and are now fully operational and a contributing member of the US Soybean Crushing industry! 🎉 Major milestones achieved during commissioning, start-up, and initial operations included: ZERO OSHA recordable incidents; environmental compliance; production of excellent high-quality products; and shipment of our first unit train of soybean meal.
