  • Last week, at the Global Africa Business Initiative hosted #UnstoppableAfrica event on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a panel of Africa’s leading tech and innovation voices came together to tackle one of the most urgent challenges of our time: Africa’s #digital future. The conversation brought clarity to the issues faced across the continent and offered practical solutions to bridge the growing divide between the digital haves and have-nots.   From the importance of affordable #internet access and robust #digitalinfrastructure to the pressing need for #digitalskills and #innovation, the discussion was a masterclass in leadership. The panelists, Hon. Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT, Rwanda; Peter Ndegwa C.B.S, CEO, Safaricom PLC; Cheick Camara, Managing Director, ServiceNow Africa; and Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General, International Telecommunication Union, brought a wealth of experience and insight. They underscored how governments, the private sector, and global organisations must #collaborate to ensure no one is #leftbehind in the #digitalrevolution.   The panelists demonstrated not only a deep understanding of the challenges but also a firm commitment to fostering the partnerships needed to propel the continent forward.   George Asamani, MBA, MD, Project Management Institute, Sub-Saharan Africa, expertly guided this pivotal #conversation. His ability to navigate diverse perspectives, maintain focus, and extract valuable insights from each panelist made the session both engaging and impactful.   Each panelist's contribution was invaluable, and their collective vision reflects the kind of #leadership Africa needs to transform its digital landscape. As we move forward, such leadership will be critical in closing the #digitaldivide and unlocking Africa’s potential on the global stage.   We will continue these vital conversations at the #PMIGlobalSummitSeriesAfrica in Rwanda, where the future of Africa’s #digitaltransformation remains at the forefront of our discussions. • Globally, women make up only 47% of the labour force compared to 72% for men, and in #projectmanagement, male professionals outnumber females 3:1. So how are they breaking through the barriers, rising to the top, and leading with #purpose? #Gather to hear. Join Emily Mutaga MBA, PMP®, Head of PMO, Bank of Kigali Plc, Ancicalia Matizha-Chemwanyisa, Group Head of PMO, Old Mutual Zimbabwe, Deeksha Singh, Head of Vitality PMO, Discovery Limited, and Noma Dzinotyiwei, Head of Programme Management, Absa Group and #Grow with their stories of how they’ve driven #PMO success and what it takes to excel in this field. • As the workplace undergoes a profound transformation, driven by technology and shifting market demands, #continuouslearning has become crucial for staying competitive. Moreover, with #GenZ entering the workforce, the focus on ongoing #reskilling and #upskilling has intensified. These digital natives value flexibility and skills-based learning over traditional degrees, viewing education as a lifelong process rather than a one-time event. A report from Top Employers Institute, Gen Z: Redefining the Future of Work, says that 80% of the Gen Z surveyed believe employers have a responsibility to continuously upskill their staff. As traditional degree enrollments decline in many parts of the world, #certifications are rising as a preferred path for targeted #professionaldevelopment. Certifications allow professionals to quickly adapt to changing market demands, providing them with the ability to upskill and reskill without the time and cost commitment of a full degree program. This shift reflects a growing demand for credentials that offer immediate #value and are directly aligned with the evolving needs of the modern workforce. At the CHRO South Africa #HRIndaba2024, we will highlight how continuous learning is no longer optional but a business imperative. George Asamani, MBA, Managing Director, Project Management Institute, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Tunde Ojo-Aromokudu, PMP, PMI-CP, President, PMI South Africa Chapter, will explore how #HR leaders can shape the future of work by promoting development strategies that equip employees with the #skills they need to adapt to evolving business needs. Join us in Boardroom 4, Sandton Convention Centre, on 08 Oct at 1:20 pm. Visit our stand to see how #PMI can partner with you to meet the growing demand for continuous learning and create a future-ready workforce. We’re also excited to offer 100 free tickets to the event. If you’re interested, please inbox us to secure your spot.

  • Three extraordinary projects from Sub-Saharan Africa have earned their place on Project Management Institute's 2024 Most Influential Projects list, proving that socially driven projects don’t just succeed—they redefine #projectsuccess. These projects don’t just deliver results—they change the world. They embody the belief that #projects can be a force for good, driving profound societal shifts and reshaping the future. Now, more than ever, we see the power of #projectmanagement in addressing our biggest global challenges. Please join us as we #celebrate Africa’s Largest Kitchen (Food For Education): Taking a direct hit at hunger by providing millions of nutritious meals to schoolchildren in Kenya, powering the fight to achieve #zerohunger. Life-changing Cash Transfers (GiveDirectly): Revolutionising #povertyrelief by empowering vulnerable communities with direct cash transfers—giving them the tools to meet their basic needs and create a future on their own terms. Energy Subscription Program (Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa): Smashing energy barriers by bringing affordable #renewable power to underserved communities, fuelling progress toward a clean, sustainable energy future. These inspiring initiatives are making a profound impact in their communities and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). PMI’s new research shows that projects with a #socialimpact are more likely to be successful, and these initiatives are transforming lives, tackling critical issues, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Visit https://lnkd.in/dTuJ9gbb to explore the full list and honour the teams behind these incredible efforts. Let’s cheer them on as they continue to shape a better tomorrow. #MIP2024

  • It’s been 48 hours since the #PMIGlobalSummit concluded, and the impact of the #conversations continues to resonate profoundly, leaving us eager for more. As the proverb says, "If you want to know the end, look at the beginning," reminding us that how we start shapes the outcomes we achieve. The Summit in 2024 has laid the #groundwork for innovations that will define the future of #projectmanagement, from reimagining success to harnessing the power of AI. One of the major highlights was PMI's redefinition of #projectsuccess, moving beyond traditional metrics like schedule, budget, and scope to focus on #stakeholder #value. This shift encourages project professionals to adopt a more holistic view, ensuring #projects deliver meaningful outcomes that justify the investment. The Summit also introduced PMI Infinity™ 2.0, a powerful #AI assistant designed to optimise workflows. With two out of five project professionals now integrating #GenerativeAI into more than half of their projects, this tool represents a significant leap forward for the profession. #PMI also announced its acquisition of Cognilytica, a leader in AI and ML training. This move will further empower project professionals with cutting-edge #certifications and the #skills needed to lead AI-driven projects. A standout session led by Billy S. Mwape, PMP, DAC, DAVSC explored how #Agile principles can be applied to navigate life’s challenges, inspiring attendees to use adaptability and feedback to address both personal and professional obstacles. Finally, the Summit and the community celebrated Taopheek BABAYEJU, CEO, iCentra, the #first #African to be named PMI Person of the Year, underscoring Africa’s growing influence in the global project management arena. Mr. Babayeju was presented with the highly coveted Eric Jenett Award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the project management profession, his technical expertise, strategic leadership, and business acumen. These important conversations will continue at the #PMIGlobalSummitSeriesAfrica in Rwanda, as we explore how innovation, AI, and project management can drive sustainable #transformation across the continent. See you soon in Kigali. If you attended the Summit in Los Angeles, we’d love to hear from you! Drop a comment and let us know what resonated with you most or what your favourite moment was.
