Congratulations to the Winners of the Digital, Data, and Technology Awards 2024! 🎉 Police Digital Service recently hosted a significant event — the National Police Chiefs' Council Digital, Data, and Technology Awards. These awards #celebrate the groundbreaking work and dedication across forces to deliver a secure, effective, and #innovative police service. 🏆 We applaud all the winners and nominees who have showcased extraordinary achievements in various categories such as Cyber Security, Innovation, and Excellence in Leadership. We would like to recognise all #110 nominations, and address special congratulations to winners such as the Avon and Somerset Police for their Custody Tracker for Solicitors, recognised for its innovative approach; to Merseyside Police for their exemplary cyber security efforts during the Eurovision 2023 Legacy project; the Warwickshire Police for their Digital Transformation Programme ‘Empower Technology’ that was recognised in the “Excellence in Leadership” category; the Metropolitan Police for Excellence in Service; the Greater Manchester Police that won in “Productivity/Value for Money” for their Whole Force system IT change project; the West Yorkshire Police for their “Digital Policing – Digital Accessibility Initiative”; and the Humberside Police for their “Victim Journey and My Police Portal” project.👏 Judges include representatives from the Police Digital Service, National Police Chiefs' Council Digital, Data and Technology Coordination Committee, and techUK. 🌐 Meet the Team – We're excited to introduce the next excellent member of the Consortium, proudly delivering transformational police education. Get to know Paula Bradbury, one of the leading forces behind shaping the future of law enforcement training. 🚔🎓 Paula Bradbury, a Criminology Lecturer and Senior Researcher at Middlesex University (Centre For Abuse & Trauma Studies | Training) is teaching on the Policing Degree Programme as a #PCDA Programme Lead. Paula is a published peer reviewed author and multiple grant winner specialising in the field of online harms and interpersonal violence, centring her work on sexual behaviours in digital spaces. She is examining policy, practice and policing 👮♂️ with the objective of identifying new ways to #safeguard children and vulnerable persons. Paula began her career in Policing Intelligence and now works with #frontline officers, and international Ministries of Justice, from around the world to combine research with advancements in practice. 🔄👨🏫 She was the National Child Sexual Abuse Lead at Victim Support, project managing a large fund by the UK Home Office to develop resources for victims of child sexual abuse and leading survivor working groups. Most recently, she investigated challenges relating to offending in the #Metaverse / #VR. 🎓 Graduation: Celebrating Success at Police Education! 🎓 We are proud to share that 65 #police student officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary graduated recently from the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (#PCDA) programme at our Consortium member’s, the Canterbury Christ Church University. The stunning backdrop of Canterbury Cathedral🏰, paired with perfect weather, made the day one to remember for our students, their families and friends, and our team. The Police Education Consortium is committed to shaping the future of #policing by delivering high-quality education and training that equips our officers with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to serve our communities. This graduation marks not only the culmination of our students' hard work but also the ongoing #success of a collaborative approach to police education. This #ModernisingPolicing week by the National Police Chiefs' Council, the first-ever lead for Artificial Intelligence has reaffirmed commitment to using the technology responsibly. In the fast-evolving area of law enforcement, the Police Education Consortium is at the forefront of learning and educating about the integration of #advanced #technologies to enhance policing capabilities, following the latest developments closely. NPCC Temporary Chief Constable Alex Murray, appointed in March, has started work on three key areas: 💻 Improving productivity 💻 Making policing more effective in cutting crime 💻Tackling the criminal use of AI He stated that #policing will always use Artificial Intelligence responsibly. Trials of #AI programmes have been ongoing to help ease call demand, tackle child exploitation and identify domestic abuse cases. He is also keen to highlight the innovative work and ambitious pilots already underway across our forces, including: 📲 Using AI trials in control rooms to help call handlers manage demand and focus on those most at risk. ✍ The development of redaction tools, transcription and translation services. 🔢 Using tools which can search huge amounts of data to find out where potential child exploitation is taking place. T/Chief Constable Murray said 🗨: “There are huge benefits to using AI across the wider criminal justice system, not just in policing, and we should not shy away from it. We need to mobilise now and equip our workforce for the #future. If we don’t, we risk falling behind the criminals who are embracing and exploiting these tools”. The former West Mercia Police officer, now a Director in the NCA, added: “I want to be very clear with the public that our use of AI will always be responsible, #transparent and explainable … “We are committed to working with key partners, #academia and #industry leaders to improve but will always be open and transparent about our actions and intentions.”  Founded in 2017, the Police Education Consortium 🏫 includes Middlesex University, Canterbury Christ Church University, the University of Cumbria, and the University of Portsmouth, led by distinguished professionals, cooperating with various police forces. 🌟 In our Meet the Team series, now we highlight and honour the remarkable career of Richard Honess MSc FHEA, Senior Lecturer in #Policing! 🌟 Richard (Rich) Honess is Senior Lecturer in Policing at Canterbury Christ Church University, a position that he has held since October 2017 and teaches on both the PCDA and DHEP programmes. Before this he was a Positive Action Recruitment Officer, then frontline Police Sergeant in the Metropolitan Police Service having served in Westminster, Lambeth and Bromley Boroughs. His #research interests include police training, both initial and continuing professional development, police recruitment, especially of #underrepresented groups and evidence-based policing. Richard has been a contributor to the Blackstone’s Handbook for Policing Students since 2016 and has published on various topics mainly related to police education. As the new academic year begins, let's not forget that the College of Policing has published its 2024 Competency and Values Framework (#CVF), providing clear expectations for everyone working in #policing. It describes the behaviours required of a police officer or member of staff, to be effective in their role and uphold the #CodeOfEthics. It plays a significant role in the recruitment, assessment, and development of officers and staff at every level. ❔ Why was it developed❔ Because #research and reviews of policing over the last decade have consistently highlighted the importance of #Ethical and #ValuesDriven behaviour in police officers and staff. In the Police Education Consortium, we work with highly experienced lecturers, experts, researchers, and other staff to deliver quality police education and follow the latest updates in policing in the UK and worldwide. Amongst our staff, there are experts in data analysis, inclusivity, and police leadership.
