Systemic approaches to environmental risk assessment are critical to ensuring sustainable agricultural productivity and ecosystem health 🌱 We are excited to share that Professor Chris Topping, leader of The Social-Ecological Systems Simulation (SESS) centre - Aarhus University, has co-authored a vital study recently published in Environmental International 📑 This research explores the intricate relationships between biodiversity, especially pollinators, and ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes. The study assesses the risks posed by current agricultural practices and proposes methods for better integrating biodiversity conservation into farming systems. The findings emphasise the importance of systemic landscape-based risk assessment approaches to ensure that both agricultural productivity and ecosystem health can be sustained over the long term 🌿 This work aligns closely with key initiatives funded by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Commission Horizon Europe that the SESS Centre is deeply involved in, including: 🧭 PERA Roadmap: Paving the way toward a sustainable and resilient environmental future 🔬 SyberacHEU: Developing system-based approaches to environmental risk assessment. 🐝 PollinERA Project: Advancing pollinator health and biodiversity research across Europe Promoting biodiversity through risk management strategies and policy innovation can foster sustainable, resilient agricultural ecosystems. Collaboration among stakeholders is essential to achieving these goals, reflecting the work being done through the mentioned projects and other initiatives such as the Horizon Europe project TerraChem and PARC 6.4.4 under the European Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC). We are proud of the role our Centre plays in contributing to these critical efforts in environmental science, and we hope this publication inspires new dialogues about sustainability, biodiversity, and the future of agriculture. 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dfZ8YRC4 🔗 Discover more about our role and the projects on our website: https://lnkd.in/eydZdQ8r #Sustainability #EnvironmentalScience #Biodiversity #EcosystemServices #Agriculture #SystemsApproach #LandscapeBased #Research #PollinERA #SYBERAC #PERARoadmap #PARC #TerraChem #AarhusUniversity #SESScentre
