What to do when maintenance costs and downtime get worse... A mine in North America was grappling with high maintenance costs and operational inefficiencies. Constant plugging and blinding issues on their screens led them to Polydeck for a reliable and effective solution. PROBLEMS ❌ High maintenance and wear issues due to processing various product sizes. ❌ Constant plugging and blinding on the top deck of the secondary screen. ❌ Secondary top deck's effective open area was limited to 20%-30%. ❌ Inefficient bottom deck slot orientation and rounded corner designs. STEPS TAKEN ✅ Switched to Polydeck’s PipeTop stringer system for improved panel fastening. ✅ Introduced modular screens on the secondary screen to simplify hardware and reduce costs. ✅ Utilized two types of panels on the secondary top deck for enhanced wear life and screen availability. ✅ Adjusted slot design to align with material flow, improving screen efficiency. ✅ Implemented a slot length minimum of 3:1 for better screen performance. ✅ Applied VR style panels on the top deck to mitigate plugging and blinding issues. RESULTS Making the switch to Polydeck’s Maxi panels dramatically improved performance. The open area increased by 80%, resulting in a 50% boost in throughput. This adjustment also reduced the material fed into the crushers, preserving the wear life of critical crusher components. Each deck’s open area improved from 20% to 35%, enhancing overall screen efficiency by 50%. Throughput capacity exceeded 1000 TPH. #PolydeckProTip Screen Settings for Fighting Plugging Excess plugging can severely limit your screen's efficiency and limit your chances at hitting production goals. Here are 3 things to consider when optimizing your screen to fight plugging: ✅ Correct Screen Rotation: Ensure your screens are rotating "with flow". Rotating "uphill" can increase plugging and degrade performance. ✅ Adjust Screen Speed and Stroke: Adjust speed and stroke settings to enhance travel time without causing plugging. Remember, any speed or stroke changes should be made with a full understanding of your machine's critical frequencies to avoid catastrophic damage. Always refer to your OEM for proper setting specifications. ✅ Increase Open Area: Replace old media with higher open area panels.
