  • Pony.ai (NASDAQ: PONY), a pioneer in autonomous driving technology, in partnership with ComfortDelGro Corporation Limited (“ComfortDelGro”), a leading multi-modal transport operator, launched robotaxi pilot program in Guangzhou, China on March 12. In this program, Pony.ai and ComfortDelGro will jointly operate multiple autonomous vehicles to provide services in Guangzhou. Pony.ai will provide daily technical support for the autonomous vehicles and establish a management system of the autonomous vehicles. ComfortDelGro, leveraging its extensive experience in managing large-scale fleets along with current and future operational needs, will continuously refine the management system for large-scale autonomous ride-hailing operations, building a service quality management system and rapid response mechanisms. Dr. Leo Wang, CFO of Pony.ai said: “With good progress from the last few years, Pony.ai has accumulated strong expertise in autonomous driving technology and operational platforms in managing Robotaxi services, with more vehicle productions underway. To achieve large-scale deployment, we need strong partners to support our global expansion. I am impressed by ComfortDelGro’s years of expertise in large-scale fleet management and believe both teams will learn fast and well from each other through this fruitful collaboration.” Mr Cheng Siak Kian, the Managing Director/Group Chief Executive Officer of ComfortDelGro said: “The development of autonomous vehicle technology is crucial in future-proofing the transport industry. With continuing driver shortages a global issue, we are exploring innovative solutions to ensure mobility remains accessible and efficient. Autonomous technology can complement the human driver workforce by increasing ride availability during off peak hours and in underserved areas. This pilot will allow us to build operational capabilities in robotaxis, and a step closer to wider future deployment.” The pilot program marks a significant step in the commercial deployment of robotaxi services for both companies. The two signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a strategic partnership for large scale commercial robotaxi operations in July 2024.

Pony.ai is very pleased to share that on January 15th it renewed its joint venture (called Cyantron) with Sinotrans, one of China’s leading logistics and freight forwarding companies. Sinotrans is one of Pony.ai’s most important strategic partners. Through this renewed joint venture and deepened strategic cooperation, Pony.ai and Sinotrans will rapidly accelerate toward their goal: the large-scale commercialization of autonomous trucks and the shaping of a new smart logistics industry. Cyantron is a provider of AD-TaaS (Autonomous Driving Transportation as a Service) and has built a smart, efficient, safe and green logistics road transport network and will continue to grow China’s largest robotruck fleet. With over 190 robotrucks, Cyantron has China’s largest robotruck fleet and operates China’s longest autonomous driving commercial trucking route. As of the end of December 2024, they traveled more than 5 million autonomous driving kilometers (over 3.1 million miles) of road tests, total operating mileage of over 57 million kilometers (over 35.4 million miles) and transported more than 860 million ton-kilometers of cargo.

Pony.ai is pleased to share that it has begun "driver out" testing of its autonomous vehicles on expressways and highways in Beijing. Pony.ai is among the first companies to receive a license for "driver out" autonomous testing on expressways and highways. For permitted high-speed expressway and highway testing, Pony.ai's "driver out" autonomous vehicles do not have a person behind the wheel but have a safety driver in the passenger seat, per regulations. Pony.ai's autonomous vehicles will operate between Beijing's Yizhuang District and such notable locations as the Beijing Daxing International Airport and the Beijing South Railway Station, covering different expressway and highway roads, totalling nearly 90 kilometers (nearly 56 miles) of roads. Vehicles going to and from the Beijing Daxing International Airport will run from 7:00 am to 1:00 am while vehicles testing to and from the Beijing South Railway Station will operate from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, covering diverse driving conditions such as daytime rush hours and late night driving. This new permit is a milestone and is the first time that "driver out" autonomous driving is permitted on expressways and highways for testing since the testing route opened in 2024.

Pony.ai is pleased to share that it's the first company in China approved to test "driver out" in the follow truck in a "1+N" platoon. Pony.ai will soon begin testing its robotruck convoy on the cross-provincial expressway connecting Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province. While the lead robotruck will continue to have a safety operator in the driver's seat, the robotruck behind it will be driver out - no one behind the wheel. This first permit for a company in China is a major milestone for Pony.ai's leading #robotruck business and will further reduce the costs of autonomous trucking. Pony.ai is already a leader in autonomous robotrucking freight service. Together with its partner Sinotrans, one of China’s leading logistics and freight forwarding companies, in 2024, Pony.ai autonomous trucks in platoon formation started testing freight service between Beijing and Tianjin. These robotrucks have been transporting goods daily between Beijing and Tianjin, completing nearly 500 TEUs (standard shipping container units) of freight orders, with total autonomous mileage of more than 45,000 kilometers (nearly 28,000 miles) on this route. Pony.ai is committed to the large-scale commercialization of autonomous trucks; this latest trucking milestone is another big step toward the large-scale commercialization of robotrucking. As of the end of December 2024, Pony.ai's fleet of over 190 robotrucks have traveled more than 5 million kilometers (over 3.1 million miles) of road tests and have transported more than 860 million ton-kilometers of cargo.
