  • BREAKING: We just unveiled a Vision Plan to reimagine Newark Liberty International Airport as a world-class gateway that can accommodate continued passenger growth in the coming decades. The plan calls for a new Terminal B to complement the award-winning Terminal A, a streamlined roadway network, more efficient aircraft taxiways, and more. “A modern, efficient, world-class Newark Liberty Airport is more than just a dream. We now have an actionable path forward thanks to this comprehensive vision plan,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. • As we celebrate the final day of Hispanic Heritage Month, we spotlight the inspiring journey of Priscilla Sanchez, the Port Authority Police Department's (PAPD) first female captain of Hispanic heritage. Her story began when, as a 10-year-old, her older brother gifted her a stuffed puppy before his deployment to Iraq. That small gesture of love would stay with her through the decades as she pursued a career in law enforcement, culminating in a trailblazing role within the PAPD. Years later, Sanchez’s sons hugged that same puppy as she rose to captain. Sanchez’s journey is a testament to the power of family, tradition, and pride in heritage. Her leadership within the PAPD highlights the important contributions of Hispanic Americans in public service. Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton said, “Just seven years ago when we unveiled our JFK Vision Plan, few people believed we could build a new world-class airport while maintaining full flight operations and managing record passenger volumes. But seeing is believing. And in just a couple of years, travelers will experience a beautiful and efficient new airport with a uniquely New York sense of place.” Learn more: https://ow.ly/xza950TBhfv #AWholeNewJFK #Construction #Milestone

  • On September 19, the Port Authority’s chief operating officer, Jim Heitmann, was honored as a distinguished industry leader by the South Asian American Association Inc. (#SAAAI) at their 2024 Scholarship Fundraising Dinner for his impact and contributions to the region, including his role in the agency’s redevelopment of its major airports and in the replacement of the Midtown Bus Terminal. Rizwan Baig, P.E. the chief engineer of the Port Authority, introduced Jim by asking the nearly 600 guests to acknowledge Jim’s lengthy career behind the scenes of some of the region’s biggest infrastructure projects with a resounding chant of "Thank you, Jim!" In addition to Port Authority staff and Jim’s family, many of the guests represented engineers and crews from peer agencies and Port Authority partners across many agency projects spanning the airports, the bridges and tunnels and PATH. SAAAI was founded in 2000s by a group of professional engineers to help New York City students pursue their education in engineering. At this year’s dinner, 10 aspiring engineers from regional universities and colleges were awarded scholarships of $7,000 each.
