About us

Precision Lubrication magazine provides timely, in-depth news and insights on lubrication, maintenance, and reliability. Each issue delivers solid guidance, tools, and information you can use right away at your facility. A well-executed lubrication program represents an enormous opportunity for most industrial plants. Even though the benefits are large, only a small segment of industry treats lubrication as a serious maintenance activity. When lubrication programs are run haphazardly, aren’t given the proper support, and aren’t championed as a critical component of an organization’s mission, machine reliability suffers, and equipment fails. Our mission is to equip lubrication, maintenance, and reliability professionals with solid guidance and tools for developing precision lubrication and fluid analysis programs that are properly executed, and sustainable and serve as a center of excellence for their companies. 📢 Outdoor Lubricant Storage: What You Need to Know For years, machine reliability pros have been warned: 🚫 Avoid outdoor lubricant storage whenever possible. Here's why: 1. 🌞 Risk of oxidation: Sunlight heats the lubricant, accelerating oxidation. 2. 💧 Contamination: Dirt and moisture can easily find their way in. 3. 🛢️ Container corrosion: Rust can cause container failure. What happens during hot weather: Steel lubricant containers heat up, causing increased internal pressure. When the temperature drops (like after a rain shower), the rapid contraction can create a vacuum inside the container, strong enough to pull moisture into the oil. "These drums are sealed! How can water get in?" The truth is, they're not airtight. Watch this video — it's all the proof you need. 🎥 This constant heating and cooling causes the drum to "breathe." Over time, water enters, corrupting the lubricant. Each thermal cycle allows more water in, leading to damage. 💡 Pro tip: If you're storing lubricants outdoors, consider alternatives like keeping them in a ‘insta-storage’ unit made from steel shipping crates to reduce this risk. Nothing good comes from water in your oil. Don't risk it. 🛑 A shout-out to Felipe da Silva Ramos for this great video!

The Must-Have Skill for Every Industrial Maintenance Professional When it comes to industrial machine maintenance, the difference between success and costly downtime often boils down to one thing: Oil Analysis. (Because what you don’t know can hurt you.) But let’s be honest… Most end-users receive oil analysis reports filled with technical jargon and generic comments that don’t always connect with the specific needs of their machinery. Here’s how to change that: 1. Master Oil Sampling: → Proper sampling is the foundation of reliable data. → Ensure samples are taken at the right location, at the right time, with the right equipment. 2. Understand the Testing Process: → From viscosity to elemental analysis, each test tells a story about your machinery. → But remember, the context matters. Results should be interpreted with your specific machinery in mind. 3. Respond to Alarms Like a Pro: → Alarms aren’t just alerts—they’re early warnings. → Customize them based on your machine’s needs and respond promptly to avoid bigger issues down the line. 4. Move Beyond Generic Comments: → Don’t rely solely on the lab’s interpretation. → Dig deeper into the data, considering your machinery’s unique design and operating conditions. Empower yourself with the knowledge to interpret oil analysis data like a pro. Because when you understand the details, you can make informed decisions that truly enhance machinery health and longevity. P.S. If you want to dive deeper into data interpretation, consider a training course that focuses on real-world applications rather than just theory. Unlock the Hidden Value of Precision Lubrication ⚙️ (Hint: It’s the cornerstone of reliability you didn’t know you needed) The industrial world literally floats on an oil film thinner than a red blood cell. And if we don’t protect that film, we lose. 💡 Why Precision Lubrication Matters: 1. Indirect Impact: Enhancing lubrication practices improves plant capacity. It’s not just about MRO savings—think reduced COGS, improved safety, and consistent quality. Dependable capacity drives financial performance and job security. 2. Direct Impact: For every dollar spent on lubricants, you could spend $10-$20 on repairs and an additional $3-$5 on labor. Implementing precision lubrication practices can significantly reduce these repair and labor costs, making your maintenance budget work harder for you. Key Actions to Reduce MRO Expenses: 1. Sustain that thin oil layer. 🌟 2. Make the oil film cleaner. 🌿 Achieve these, and watch your MRO expenses drop. It’s challenging, but the payoff? Tremendous. The Economic Driver: Reducing the ongoing costs of machine care is the most reliable way to enhance cash flow. Labor, materials, machine parts, and downtime—all reduced with precision lubrication. How to Build Precision Lubrication: * Create a floor plan showing all rotating assets. * Define an efficient, linear path for machine care. * Collect data on lubricated components. * Log all activities into a task management system. * Generate and track weekly care routines. 🔍 Remember: Precision is key. You can transform maintenance practices by applying established engineering principles, turning potential losses into a competitive edge. P.S. The journey to precision isn’t easy, but the rewards are worth it. Ready to take the first step? Take a look at this information-packed article explaining the process: https://lnkd.in/e83Kqg6F ♻️ Repost if you found this valuable, and follow or connect with me for more insights on maintenance and reliability.
