🎉 Celebrating our leaders and champions! 🎉 We're proud to share that our President & CEO Jim Pieffer and immediate past president Paul Winkler have been honored with the 2024 Eileen Zungolo Spirit of Service Award from Duquesne University! This award was presented at the 15th-annual McGinley-Rice Symposium on Social Justice for Vulnerable Populations held this month. Pictured here (scroll through pics to see): Duquesne's Provost David Dausey awards Jim Pieffer for his dedication to service. (Paul couldn’t attend, but we’re celebrating him in spirit!) Special shoutout to our Dementia360 stars Amy Kowinsky and Michelle Govan, who presented "The Hardest Job They Were Never Trained For: Equipping Dementia Family Caregivers for Success." Their work highlights the importance of supporting family caregivers in the journey of dementia care. Congratulations to all, and a huge thank you to @Duquesne University School of Nursing for spotlighting the needs of people living with dementia. 💙 #SpiritOfService #SocialJustice #DementiaSupport #Leadership
Today was the second and final day of the Fifteenth Annual McGinley-Rice Symposium, titled the Face of the Person with Dementia. Thank you to everyone involved for making this year's conference a success! Our speakers and panelists delivered powerful, thought-provoking presentations and fostered robust discussion around a complex and often overlooked topic: dementia and those living with it. Dementia, the theme of McGinley-Rice 15, is a disease of the brain. The disease changes the lives of a person, their family, and the community. This symposium sought to examine the various forms of dementia and the effects it has on many. Nurses, social workers, psychologists, educators, advocates, and other healthcare professionals traveled from across the country to gather and discuss the topic. Established as a national forum on social justice for vulnerable populations, the McGinley-Rice Symposium is an integral part of Fall on the Bluff. The School of Nursing presents this symposium on health care issues, using the tradition of Catholic social thought as a unifying principle. The McGinley-Rice Symposia on Social Justice for Vulnerable Populations are endowed by the generous support of the Rita M. McGinley Foundation, John R. McGinley and the John R. McGinley, Jr,. Esq. family. For more information about this and previous McGinley-Rice Symposia, visit duq.edu/social-justice.
