💡 For new fresh PR ideas... go interview the sales team, then the tech team, then the ops team... hell, why not talk to all of the teams! Ideas are everywhere.

Founder at Crackle PR ⚡️Text me if you need tech PR: 415.246.8486

Does your PR team interview your *sales team*? 🎤 They should! Why? To: 1. Hear about the *realities* on the ground. This can spark excellent *real-world* ideas 💡 2. Mine for a diverse array of case studies 📈 3. Better understand the unvarnished momentum (or lack thereof) of the business. Sales needs to understand that the PR team is a key extension of the unified marketing effort. That PR is *on their side* to help them: *Build awareness *Lower barriers to “yes” *Soften the beachheads in new territories *Provide plenty of fodder (good excuses to reach out and touch prospects). This isn’t common practice at a lot PR agencies. But it damn sure should be. PR is a sales team’s best friend. If you know you know ✌️ This is the way ✊ #publicrelations #sales

Top things great PR pros can’t/won’t do: 1) Guarantee placement (unless it’s an ad or juicy scandal). 2) Demand interview questions beforehand or “veto power” over coverage before it’s published. 3) “Kill the story” - We don’t have secret powers over a free press (I wish we did), though we can help influence and mitigate the tone and tenure if you have us in the room from the beginning. 4) Re-engineer bad/fraudulent products, services, or erase unethical, illegal, immoral conduct. We can help put risk, reputation, and crisis response protocols in place, but we can’t force humans to follow them. 5) Promise to “make you go viral” right away. We can put content plans and practices in place that will increase the likelihood of attention and influence, but it usually takes time. If anyone tells you (in the absence of buying ads) that you’ll pick up 100K followers, 🏃♂️ away. That’s my top 5 this Monday, what say you?

I love a good trend. Currently, microdosing is all the rage. There is ample evidence that microdosing psychedelics can help some folks with depression and anxiety. And you know what? If anyone has a microdosing solution for getting a newborn human on a human-style sleep schedule — that’s not vodka! — please let me know. But I can assure you that: microdosing PR doesn’t work 💊 In this new, no-frills piece I share a tough love macrodose of why. Particularly for new arrivals to the media party falling again and again (and again) for the false-hope trap of a quick fix. Read at: https://lnkd.in/eQEwXZTe. I'm back from maternity leave and ready to Captain again with our newest member in tow! #PR #PRtips #press #mediarelations #marcomms

We can't agree more with Scott Merritt here - just because you distribute a press release doesn't guarantee coverage! It's sending it to the right people (hyper targeted media) at the right time and place (it's timely + relevant news).

Call me when you’re tired of working with crappy PR agencies. Webby Award nominee. Sometimes I talk into a microphone. Founder, Strategic Global Media | Co-Host, Second Act Stories Podcast

Sharing a hard truth about PR with a client can be tough, but that's what they pay us for. Here's one I have to share more often that I like. Press releases don’t generate news coverage. 💣 A press release isn’t necessary if you want reporters to cover your story. What you need is: 1️⃣ A carefully curated media list  2️⃣ A great pitch that frames up the story in a compelling way 3️⃣ An empathetic approach to outreach That’s what will pique a reporter’s interest and potentially lead to meaningful coverage that moves the needle. No press release required. That’s the secret sauce. 🤫 There may be lots of reasons to issue a press release, but they just aren’t necessary for generating media coverage.

Does #AI belong in the #PR industry? There's been pretty heated discussions on this topic, especially because many journalists and media staff have been impacted by layoffs and reduction in work. Here's my take: AI cannot replace the jobs of PR professionals. The distinctive #human touch in #communication is what creates the nuance, emotional intelligence, and creativity that resonate with the audience on a deeper level. PR or #MR (Media Relations) is now more than ever about human connections. In other words, the key to success is not removing the human element, but instead, working in alignment with these tools to ensure that press releases, pitches, and other content have the tailored approach. Think about these situations: ⚠ During crises, AI cannot replace the intuitive understanding and strategic thinking required to manage a sensitive situations effectively. 🎤 Preparing executives for media interactions involves personalized training and coaching that goes beyond what AI can offer. 🤝 Making an effort to get to know a journalist and relating to them instead of using an AI-generated pitch, will always win in response rates :) There's a lot that AI can do these days, such as realtime monitoring and sentiment analysis. And I share the ways in which it can be useful to the PR industry in this guest blog on MarTech Series: https://lnkd.in/ehRKmrKS

Does #AI belong in the #PR industry? Here are some highlights and hot takes from Michelle Songy's article in MarTech Series: 🔍 Traditionally, getting a brand noticed by #journalists required extensive networking, pitching, and often a bit of luck – or a pay-for-play opportunity. Today, AI-powered tools are making it easier for journalists to find relevant brands and stories. ⚡️ AI-powered #media monitoring tools provide real-time insights into how a brand is being perceived across various channels. These tools can track mentions, analyze sentiment, and even predict potential PR crises before they escalate. 🤝 The key is not removing the #human element, and instead, understanding how to work in alignment with #generativeAI tools – ensuring press releases, pitches and other content always has the personable, tailored touch. Let's say that one more time. 🗣️ The distinctive human touch in #communication creates the nuance, emotional intelligence, and creativity that resonate on a deeper level. Especially: ⚠️ During crises, AI cannot replace the intuitive understanding and strategic thinking required to manage a sensitive situations effectively. 🎤 Preparing executives for media interactions involves personalized training and coaching that goes beyond what AI can offer.
