I'm excited to share BMSG's messaging guide on park and green space equity, informed by PI's People, Parks, and Power (P3) Initiative. It's great to see the work of local P3 partners highlighted in ways that can help park equity advocates craft a media strategy to support equitable systems change.

We cannot have meaningful conversations about our nation's health without confronting the realities of structural racism. The injustices we witness in communities—affecting health, safety, and overall well-being—are deeply intertwined with racism, discrimination, and various forms of racial injustice. To achieve true health equity, we must commit to closing racially unjust gaps in health outcomes. Together, let's engage in this critical work to ensure health, safety, and well-being for everyone in our nation. Change starts with us! Over the past three years, we have worked to strengthen the relevance and effectiveness of public health strategies to advance racial justice and health equity within the field. Listen to our podcast episode hosted by PI Director Ruben Cantu as he talks with PI staff members La’Quana Williams (Associate Program Director) and Alberto Espiricueta (Program Assistant) on their journey to accomplish this goal. This episode was made possible with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. #RacialJustice #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #THRIVE https://lnkd.in/eYQWpcE6

🍿🎬 Join us and partners on Thursday, October 24, 6 pm ET, for a virtual film screening and discussion of "Warrior Women." The film highlights the efforts of the American Indian Movement (AIM) in the 1970s, where activists fought for Native liberation with pride in their heritage. It focuses on Madonna Thunder Hawk, an AIM leader who, along with her daughter Marcy, created the "We Will Remember" Survival School, offering a Native alternative to government-run education. What we deem to be credible and valuable evidence has the power to shape what is possible for our communities. Evidence-based decision-making is a cornerstone of effective public health. While research evidence is vital, it's time to elevate the voices of our communities. By expanding forms of evidence, we can create more effective public health programs and policies. Learn more in the report Uplifting Contextual and Experiential Evidence: Promising Practices and Recommendation, which highlights four key components to uplifting these types of evidence: 1. Practicing meaningful community engagement 2. Shifting power, ownership, and action to community 3. Implementing community-driven methods and approaches 4. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we know that safety and healing are possible. Safety and Healing in Networks of Equity (SHINE) is a California-based project, supported by the Blue Shield of California Foundation and co-created with a Learning Community of five collaboratives. The collaboratives have been building community leadership and power for safety through advocacy for housing and economic justice, holistic youth and family support, and community-based intergenerational healing. Learn more about how these groups are transforming community environments so that populations harmed by structural inequities and domestic violence have equitable access to conditions for safety and healing. https://lnkd.in/eExWmgGx #SHINE #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #DomesticViolencePrevention #Safety #Healing
