In honor of American Pharmacist Month, we’re sharing a series of employee spotlights from the pharmacists that work at Prime. Jacob LaRue, PharmD, CPHQ has been with Prime for 12 years and is currently the assistant vice president of specialty clinical solutions. When we asked Jacob what inspired him to become a pharmacist, he shared that it was the experience watching the impact the pharmacist/owner of his first job at his hometown drug store had on his community. “At 15 years old, my first job was a ‘soda jerk’ at an old-fashioned soda fountain inside Saults Drug Store in my hometown of Fulton, Missouri. I was inspired by the countless opportunities the pharmacist owner, Alton Real, RPh, had to improve the lives of so many customers and patients daily. As a pharmacist, he inherently built true relationships with so many people in the community by sharing his knowledge and offering advice.” #AmericanPharmacistMonth

Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day, a holiday that honors Native American people, commemorates their histories and cultures, and celebrates their identity and traditional ways of life. Last year, the Prime Together Foundation awarded a grant to MIGIZI Communications, an organization that provides cultural programming, academic support and paid internships to Native youth. One of their programs, First Person Productions, gives youth in this community a platform to tell the stories of Native people through filmmaking, podcasting and social media projects. "We know that historically, Native Americans have been repressed and mistreated," says Zabrina Watkins, diversity, equity and inclusion director and vice chair of the Prime Together Foundation. "The Prime Together Foundation felt it was important to award a grant to an organization that gives a voice to this group, empowering them to authentically share their own stories."
