October is #HealthLiteracyMonth. Most adults have experienced low health literacy at some point in their life. When people have low health literacy, they struggle to find and use information to make health-related decisions. Health literacy is also a responsibility organizations have to equitably give people the info they need to make health-related decisions. We’re back with another post highlighting a Prime pharmacist in honor of American Pharmacists Month. Rachael Prusi has been a pharmacist for 16 years and has been with Prime since March as the director of clinical specialty solutions. She grew up seeing how her grandfather influenced her community as a pharmacist and pharmacy owner in her hometown. In high school, she loved chemistry and biology and decided to pursue clinical pharmacy. When we asked Rachael what advice she has to share with aspiring pharmacists, she shared the following: “First, always keep your focus on the goal: helping the patient. Whether you’re recommending a therapy change or adjusting medication dosages, everything you do is about improving their health, well-being or quality of life. Second, recognize the importance of teamwork. To be truly effective, you need to understand the roles of your interdisciplinary health care partners — from doctors and nurses to dietitians and therapists. Each of them brings unique skills and perspectives, and the magic happens when you combine that with your expertise in medication management. Working together, you create the best possible outcomes for patients.” #AmericanPharmacistsMonth
