  • Investing in infrastructure in underserved communities is a critical pillar of climate resilience. County Executive Angela Alsobrooks joined Congressman Glenn Ivey, Senator Ben Cardin, Senator Chris Van Hollen, WSSC Water General Manager & CEO Kishia Powell, and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) representatives today at West Hyattsville Metro Station announcing over $2.8M for major community projects in Prince George’s County. These funds are possible thanks to landmark Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Here what the funding will be spent on: ✅ $1.3M –– Anacostia River Watershed environmental justice ✅ $500K –– West Hyattsville Metro Station environmental resiliency improvements ✅ $960K –– Expansion of WSSC utility service for environmental justice for underserved communities Our congressional delegation really delivered on this one. We’re so grateful for how hard they work to help improve the quality of life for Prince Georgians. Improving the quality of life of our residents has been one of the Alsobrooks Administration’s Proud Priorities since 2019.

  • Have you heard about the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development granting $2 million to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and our Prince George’s County Department of Social Services? The grant funding was announced at the ribbon-cutting of the new Bruce Empowerment Zone center in Hyattsville, MD through the Sasha Bruce Youthwork organization. This funding is set to support Maryland’s Youth Homelessness System Improvement. Our DCAO of Health, Human Services & Education, Dr. Areola shares, “We look forward to our continued partnership with state officials as we use these new funds to improve our youth homelessness response system”. This new location will help Sasha Bruce Youthwork continue to combat youth homelessness in Prince George’s County. As a part of their B-E-Z Drop-in Program, this center will offer youth aged 14-24, basic necessities of food, toiletries, cash, technology, case management and more.
