Last month, Deboshree Dutta spoke to ProductTank about her path to entrepreneurship and founding Criya. Deboshree never planned to become an entrepreneur, it sort of just happened! She credits years of prep, and personal investment to her success. Along with her work in her previous role as head of Product at PayPal, Deboshree invested her time in outside projects; including her personal brand that she cultivated through her social media profile, which currently has over 174 K followers. Through Instagram, Deboshree connected with other people working in product; eventually leading to the start of her own mentorship program and what later became Criya. Through her social media presence and work as a PM, Deboshree has learned all about marketing, good business, and most importantly, grit. 𝐃𝐫. Nilou Salehi 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐔𝐂, 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐕𝐈𝐃𝐈𝐀. Her research in education, healthcare, and restorative justice make her well-versed in the ethics and humanity of generative AI. This month, Dr. Salehi spoke about 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐋𝐌s. LLMs stand for 𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬, and they refer to many of the AI programs used today, such as Gemini, ChatGPT, and Google Translate. As Dr. Salehi points out, like most new products there are still some bugs to fix, LLMS can be wrong. Dr. Salehi shared examples of when health care providers utilizing Google Translate directly hurt patients due to mistranslations. At the time, there wasn't an accessible way for users to flag translation errors or fix them. Google Translate is simply one example, this is a recurring pattern in the market that's important for Product Managers and their teams to be aware of. “𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐋𝐋𝐌𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐯𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐬; 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤,” Dr. Salehi says.  So Dr. Salehi  and her team at Berkeley are developing a more reliable LLM model: allowing users to better interact with data retrieval and synthesis. It's called 𝐘𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐢 Created by UC Berkeley students 𝐀𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐢𝐤𝐳𝐚𝐝, 𝐀𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐧, 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐅𝐞𝐧𝐠, 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐬𝐯𝐢 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐡, 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐬 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐠, Yodeai transforms structured data into actionable insights by retrieving relevant information with citations for teams to reference in their product research. What differentiates this new LLM from others on the market is it enables users to trace back how Yodeai reaches its conclusions and from where they originate. It’s like showing Product Development teams what's happening backstage.
