By combining qualitative and quantitative data, you’ll identify fellows who need additional  intervention and leverage Basta’s resources to support them to land a career pathway job. Last week at #NCAN2024, we had the chance to engage with hundreds of professionals on redefining the college-to-career journey. 🔑 ️It was an eye-opening experience! Here are the top 3 takeaways from the conference: ➡️ Scalable Career Support: The Missing Link for First-Gen Students Post-secondary staff are often overextended, making it difficult to provide the level of personalized career guidance that first-gen students need. The challenge of delivering this support at scale leaves many students without access to critical career preparation At the ‘Redefining Career Equity and Career Pathways’ session, co-hosted by Amber Field, Ed.D., along with leaders from TheDream.US National College Attainment Network (NCAN) Attainment Network, and SkillUp Coalition, participants recognized the need for more scalable solutions. Many acknowledged that while college access is essential, career support throughout college—and exposure to diverse industries—is the missing link. 💡Basta’s career prep platform, Discovery was featured as a proven, scalable solution that offers personalized career guidance and exposure to multiple industries and careers—key elements for ensuring first-gen students are set up for long-term success. ➡️ Shifting the Narrative: The Power of a College Degree A college degree remains one of the most powerful drivers of economic mobility, particularly for low-income and first-generation students. During the “Achieving Post Secondary Equity in California’ Plenary, leaders like Jessica Ryan Campaign for College Opportunity, Christopher J. Nellum The Education Trust-West, and Dr. Daisy Gonzales California Student Aid Commission discussed California's innovative strategies for making college more affordable and accessible. Key reforms, such as streamlining community college transfer pathways and removing barriers in remedial education, highlight how policy, community partnerships, and creative initiatives are driving change. ➡️ Partnerships: The Key to Driving Impact In the session "The Power of Partnerships: Building a Seamless Postsecondary Access to Success Advising System," three visionary leaders—Jaclyn Pinero, CEO, uAspire, Ekaterina Struett, CEO, College Advising Corps, and Alexandra Bernadotte, Founder and CEO, Beyond 12 - highlighted the transformative power of collaboration. By joining forces, these organizations are working toward creating a smoother journey for low-income students transitioning to higher education. Their collective efforts show that when we align resources, we can amplify our impact and improve outcomes.
