I've been strategically using freelance work throughout my career as a Registered Dietitian. If you haven't considered this approach, there's an opportunity to tap into the value of your credentials & expertise. Hear me out. Right out of my internship, I landed a job as a clinical dietitian in a teaching hospital. It paid the bills, but when those student loan repayments hit, I needed some extra cash. So, in the evenings, I started freelancing at a chiropractor's office, offering one-on-one medical nutrition therapy. It not only gave my budget a boost but also introduced me to a whole different world of outpatient nutrition counseling compared to my hospital gig. Later on, when I ventured into private practice, I had to get creative to keep the money flowing while waiting for a steady stream of clients. Freelance gigs became my go-to once more. I was interpreting indirect calorimetry results, providing 1:1 medical nutrition therapy at a chiropractor's office (round 2!), crafting regulatory-compliant menus for an adult daycare center, providing in-home medical nutrition therapy for a home health company, and even teaching nutrition courses as adjunct faculty at a local college. Fast forward to today, and I've gone all-in on online freelance platforms. Why? Well, life happened – kids, school schedules, you name it. Even as I'm building my own company, Prosper Allied Health, freelance work remains a constant income source. It's the beauty of freelance – it adapts with you, whether you're doing it per-diem, part-time, or diving into it full-time. It evolves as your career and personal needs change. ✨ Use your credentials strategically; you earned them. They're yours. Consider freelance work to be the lifebuoy in your back pocket that you can use when you need it and as often as you need it. 🛟 Once you learn how to get freelance work off the ground and how to succeed in it, it's a repeatable process and skill you have to learn once but can keep forever. It's totally worth the small learning curve and I hope it will be something you do for yourself and your career in 2024! 😊 ******** If you're interested in learning more about how you can start freelance work as an Allied Health Pro, feel free to direct message me!
