What a fantastic day to share that we are part of the Technical Assistance team supporting SGC’s Tribal Capacity Building Program. We are honored to serve the six Tribes participating in this program and excited to support them as they advance their climate priorities.

🌎International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is a time to celebrate the diverse cultures and unique contributions of Indigenous communities in California. Today we highlight three of our programs focused on supporting Indigenous communities’ work for #climateresilience.    🔹Addressing climate change impacts such as flooding, drought, wildfires, rising seas, and record temperatures is one of California’s top priorities. Building resilience toward these impacts requires sustained investment in climate change research and science. Through our Tribal Research Grant Program, the State supports tribally led #ClimateChange research initiatives that address California’s climate resilience goals while prioritizing tribal expertise and knowledge.    🔹 Through the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program (ICARP) Regional Resilience Grant Program, the State supports 16 partnerships in strengthening regional climate change resilience. California Native American tribes lead or co-lead nine of these regional projects, making up 65% of the $21.8M awarded in Round 1. These Integrated #ClimateAdaptation and Resiliency Program grantees are boosting climate resilience across California. Below are some examples of the work underway:  In the Sierra Nevada and San Francisco Bay Area, projects the Tamien Nation and Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria are leading will restore Indigenous practices and enhance wildfire protection through vegetation management and cultural burns.  On the North Coast of California, the Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians, Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians, and Sherwood Valley Band of Pomo Indians are partnering to address drought and climate change concerns through equitable planning.  🔹The Strategic Growth Council's Tribal Capacity Building Pilot Program provides funding and technical assistance to California Native American tribes. The program aims to enhance tribal staff capacity, secure funding, and implement climate-related projects led by tribes. Six grantees, both federally and non-federally recognized tribes, were awarded a total of $1.45 million to support activities over two years. The program also offers technical support, including grant management, planning, and staff development, to help tribes sustain climate action initiatives.  #IDWIP2024 #IndigenousDay #CaliforniaforAll

Redflow is pleased to announce that our zinc-bromine energy storage technology has received grant funding approval from the California Energy Commission for US Barona Band of Mission Indians’ 6.6 MWh LDES project. We look forward to commencing project planning with the Barona Band Project Consortium, which includes Prosper Sustainably, Microgrid Initiatives, and strategic partner Ameresco.  The Barona battery will be Redflow’s fourth multi-megawatt hour project in California involving the CEC as a funding partner, and reflects the close partnership we have developed since our first CEC-sponsored project with Anaergia in 2021. Consulting with Impact Makers to Accelerate Sustainable Energy, Climate Action and Community Resilience

As much as I love climate data, I need to bring on true data scientist subcontractors to help Tribal Climate Health Project identify and address persistent information gaps in water supply and wildfire health for CA Tribes. Please pass this opportunity along to talented climate data scientists in your network that understand how climate change uniquely impacts Tribes, are familiar with State and other key water and wildfire datasets, and would be excited to help us propose some solutions.

CA Tribes have let us know that obtaining wildfire health and water supply information for climate adaptation decision-making is persistently challenging. We are looking for experienced data scientists to help us conduct a grant-funded project to help us get to the bottom of Tribal climate vulnerability information blindspots in available water supply and wildfire health datasets.

Happy Earth Day! Lincoln, our “Junior Associate” and born scientist and nature enthusiast, has formally determined that this spring is “awesome.” It’s magical what snowpack, rainfall, and stream flow does to southern CA. We hope you are enjoying this amazing planet in your neck of the woods too!

Prosper Sustainably is honored to support the Tribal Energy and Climate Collaborative. Josh Simmons left yesterday’s summit inspired after spending the day strategizing with so many Southern California Tribes and other amazing partners.

🤝 Our staff joined the Southern California Tribal Chairmen’s Association, along with multiple government agencies and CBOs (U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Caltrans District 11, California Energy Commission UC San Diego University of California, Riverside, Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE)) for the Tribal Energy Climate Collaborative (TECC) Strategic Planning Summit hosted by the Pala Band of Mission Indians today!    “The Tribal Energy Climate Collaborative is meant to be an opportunity for tribes to come together, and work together to achieve similar goals,” says Shasta Gaughen, Environmental Director of the Pala Band of Mission Indians. “Without the support of SGC it would be a lot harder to achieve our goals.”   The Summit brought people together to prioritize the voices of tribal leaders, representatives, and communities to help build #ClimateResiliency and #ClimateAdaptation.    SGC’s Community Assistance for Climate Equity team provides a suite of capacity building and technical assistance programs that serve underinvested communities at the frontlines of the climate crisis. One of those programs is the Regional Climate Collaborative (RCC) program. RCC funds coalitions of community-serving partners to establish partnerships, align projects with funding opportunities, create or update plans and policies, and create a technical assistance network to pursue and implement investment in communities with the greatest need. The TECC was 1 of 6 awards made in the first round of RCC funding. 🔗 Intrigued? Learn more today: https://lnkd.in/gt5YWJ-s #ClimateEquity
