Here's a few key insights we shared about the current pet health market: 1. Pet market exceeds livestock animal market - $55+ Billion in Global Veterinary drugs market, $28 Billion in Pet health. 2. Pet economy's robust growth fueled by -Increasing human-animal bond during covid-19 -Aging population -Lack of insurance coverage (2-3% overall coverage) -More Veterinary clinic visit and proactive healthcare for pets due to shift in pet owner demographics from boomers to gen-z/millennials -Willingness to pay for single treatment reaches $4000 USD (Forbes Advisor) Market Problem: 1. Pet owner's WTP is at an all time high, but there's a lack of proper treatment option since Animal Drug develop are 20+ years behind human drug. -Over 80-90% of the drugs prescribe at vet clinics today are human generic drugs -Over 130+ mAb drugs approved for human since 1986, but only 3 approved mAb pet drugs launched since 2016. Attending "Veterinary Meeting & Expo" The end of 2023 is significant for me as I have pivoted career from human medicine to the companion animal medicine space by working at Protect Biotech. Our team research and develop advance drugs/pipelines that were only meant for human use and work to make them accessible for pets. The process of conducting scientific/feasibility research, identifying synergies and subsequently proving efficacy in pets has truly become of my first interest now. By doing so, hopefully we can mitigate the huge gaps of unmet medical needs for our furry kids.
