Curious about remote audio mixing? Is it possible without expensive infrastructure? Don't you need a truck, satellite uplinks, or special fiber networks to make secure connections?? No. You don't. It takes a team to makes events happen and this one is exceptional! In this use case video, we dive a bit deeper on the remote audio mixing project from Atlanta to Singapore... complete with candid conversations from some of the people who helped to make it happen! It is a perfect example of how we can integrate to existing infrastructure, add value, and save you and your clients money... without sacrificing quality or functionality. A few technical notes that are important to highlight: - Bandwidth required - 20Mb up and down (main and backup audio streams) - Broadcast engineer flight/hotel/per diem/ travel days - $0 - Broadcast infrastructure onsite - 3ru - Saved time, space, and money. Also a huge thank you to ECG Productions for helping us with this awesome looking video! #aoip #broadcast #aes67 #liveevents #audioengineer #remoteengineer #remote #remoteaudio #remoterecording #ravenna #srt #sound #livesound #audiomixing Vivivaldy DirectOut GmbH Aram Richard

It's been 4 years since Protostream began and we've never met, in person, some of the people behind the companies who have helped us in our endeavors. It's going to be way cool... But that is kind of the point right? To do what we do without being physically present... Protostream... Live audio. ANYWHERE!! Introducing... ARCA. The ARCA is a culmination of function and workflow, that brings together the task of audio engineering with the science of moving audio around the world, all in a package that fits into an overhead-bin. #aoip #audioengineer #audio #broadcast #broadcastmedia #liveevents #liveproduction #remoteproduction #engineer Alex Gray Aram Richard

The morning routine while mixing from 10,000 miles away... Recorded on November 7, 2023 using our phones and edited using Adobe software, both #PremiereRush and #Audition. Here's a quick clip of a real-time interaction between the broadcast engineer in Atlanta, GA and the in-room mixer in Singapore. As you can see the latency is negligible. Perfectly acceptable for mixing in a broadcast environment. What you are hearing is an actual recording of the conversation happening on comm in both directions between Atlanta and Singapore, which is coupled with live walk-in music that is playing on-site and to broadcast program shortly before it is live to the world. In the background of some of the shots, you can see how small the #ARCA is sitting in the top left corner. Small enough to fit on or under a table, but powerful enough to handle some serious broadcast mixing chores. The result is a transparent and useful experience, which also yielded a significant cost savings for the client. Thanks to Vivivaldy for creating the highway for transmission, as well as Chris Haywood for stepping in and mixing last minute (and playing along with our social antics). There is a lot of tech on the FOH table, in the studio, and even in our ears. Remotely mixing 10,000 Miles away... AGAIN!! Once again, we were given the opportunity to show that audio mixing can be done remotely, with minimal latency over standard internet connections, and that it can be done well! The #ARCA is a fully functioning audio mixing and audio transmission hub that can get audio from "ANYWHERE TO ANYWHERE" where there are internet connections. The financial conference was again held in Singapore, while the remote mix happened in our studio in Atlanta, GA. That's just under 10,000 miles as a plane flies. This year, the ARCA was populated with just over 70 inputs in total and mixed to 29 discreet outputs that were feeding various news organizations, streams, and translation destinations. One hiccup, as it happens on international shows, was that our original plan for ingesting translation signals back and forth between the audio system had to change on site. A bonus to having ARCA onsite was that it was designed with the flexibility to construct uncommon routing methods to address such situations. More mixes? No problem. More inputs? We have the capacity. I/O to RIEDEL Communications 1024 frames were also a big part of the workflow this year. Utilizing DirectOut GmbH exbox.MDs, we converted dante to madi for IFBs for hosts and Zoom producers. The mixes and direct outs for the IFB configs were generated from ARCA, including program feeds for comm. We of course couldn't do what we do without the support of our networking partner Vivivaldy who are the ones that create the highway for transmission back and forth (and who help us get another few minutes of sleep at night). Also DirectOut GmbH for making top notch RAVENNA Network products. There are actually three DirectOut GmbH products in this picture (two you can't see). Waves Audio because there are just some things that they do better. Lets not forget SKAARHOJ for making solid solutions for the AV market, and NETGEAR for making ALL of our lives easier. Fun real-time video to follow! Aram Richard Alex Gray

It was a big couple of weeks for the #arca boxes! They were used as the highway for communication between two venues, eliminating the need for complex or impossible fiber runs between venues, while providing crystal clear, uncompressed audio in both directions. This was all done over a standard Internet connection. No special network infrastructure required. This workflow saved the client thousands of dollars and many hours of setup time. It was a major show for a major client who's colors just happened to match! The end result of the entire show was a spectacular success. We can't say enough great things about the people we get to work with and our clients who share a vision for success while pushing the boundaries of technology. Big thank you as always to our partners at Vivivaldy for providing the network landscape to help us do what we do! #aoip #communication #broadcastmedia #remoteproduction #liveevents #audioengineer
