About us
Portland Tennis & Education (PT&E) envisions a Portland where all youth have equal access to a fair learning and playing field. To this end, our 900+ hour, year-round program enables underserved youth to thrive and strengthens their community through academics, athletics, life skills, and family engagement. We serve 75 extremely resilient and diverse K-12th grade youth with these tuition-free after school and summer programs. 91% percent are students of color, 83% speak more than one language, and all qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch.

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to bring more than 50 community and business leaders on a tour of my beloved St. John’s. With the help of Willy Myers and the partnership of Michael DeVaughn and Brendan Finn, we highlighted the investments and programs that have helped North Portland begin to flourish, but didn’t shy away from the challenges we face. St John’s has long felt like we have been forgotten: from slow response times for emergencies to a perceived under investment in our business infrastructure. It was good to connect our part of Portland with folks who are willing to listen and engage. A special thanks to the amazing Randy Miller for his ongoing support throughout the planning process. Thanks to University of Portland, TriMet, Oregon Department of Transportation, Port of Portland, Portland Tennis & Education, Venture Portland, Prosper Portland for your participation. And a shout out to Shelli Romero, MPA, OPMCP, John Serra, Tanya Hartnett, Ezra Holbrook, Sarah Iannarone for your help providing programming and logistics support. It was a big lift for a volunteer effort, but absolutely worth it. #CommunityFirst #NorthPortland #StJohns #volunteerism

PT&E is proud to be a grantee of the Portland Children's Levy (PCL). Yesterday, PCL shared their 2024 Community Report to Portland City Council - including a spotlight on impacts of PCL funding at PT&E. Recent PT&E graduate had a chance to share his story with Mayor Ted Wheeler, Dan Ryan, chair of the PCL Allocation Committee, and fellow commissioners. Needless to say, Alex knocked it out of the park 👏🏽 Learn more about the impacts of the Levy at PT&E: bit.ly/PCL24
