Llama spotting at the International Mass Timber Conference! 🦙 ✈️
A llamazing activation to capture the Portland spirit at the International Mass Timber Conference! 🦙🦙🦙 Beni the therapy llama frequents the Portland International Airport (PDX) for passengers needing a soft hug and a cute photo op. We had the pleasure of having him with us here at the Port of Portland and Greater Portland Inc café booth alongside partners Prosper Portland, Business Oregon, University of Oregon, and Clackamas County. What a fun (and fluffy!) job perk! #MassTimber #Portland #Oregon #LlamaNate

Exciting news just announced at the International Mass Timber Conference! We love to see Built by Nature recognizing timber projects that align with their "Principles for Responsible Timber"—supporting healthy forests, extending the life of existing buildings, maximizing the carbon storage potential of wood, and more. The Port is investing in mass timber—both at Terminal 2 and in the new PDX—approaching our big projects in a way that balances economic and ecological values and benefits both our community and the environment. We look forward to applying, celebrating all the standout projects this year, and continuing our work with partners advancing sustainable timber construction. #masstimber #masstimberconference #pdxairport #portlandoregon

🌲 Big ideas thrive when the right people come together. We kicked off day 1 of the International Mass Timber Conference with a tour of two projects that are shaping the future of mass timber in our region. First stop: PDX, where the 9-acre mass timber roof set a new standard by bringing together local foresters, mills, and builders to create something that truly reflects the Pacific Northwest. Attendees didn’t just learn about how it was built—they heard about the importance of investing in regional expertise and creating new opportunities. Next, at Terminal 2, that same spirit is taking shape with the Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus, a regional hub for manufacturing and housing construction, research and development, and workforce training where new business ideas are taking root and growing. A big thank you to our partners who joined us to share their experience and vision including those pictured: ZGF Architects, Yakama Forest Products, Zena Forest Products, Skokomish Indian Tribe, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, Mackenzie, NativeWest Corp., and The Blueprint Foundation. The Port is just getting started, and we’d love to share more. Stop by the café in the exhibit hall to grab a coffee, meet the team, and explore how we’re creating new opportunities for innovation, industry, and community at Terminal 2. ----------------- #masstimberconference #masstimber #PDXairport #PortOfPortland Andersen Construction, Hoffman Construction Company, Skanska, LEVER Architecture, National Association of Minority Contractors, Inc., Single Widget, Timberlab, University of Oregon, Worksystems, ZIP-O-LAMINATORS LLC

Well, look at that—the Port of Portland just landed on Fast Company’s list of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2025. Right up there with YouTube and the WNBA. That’s quite a big deal for a public agency. Apparently, turning an airport into a full-on love letter to the Pacific Northwest—with a locally sourced mass timber roof, all Oregon shops, 90% union-built everything, geothermal systems cutting fossil fuel use by 90%, and art that tells the story of Oregon—really does grab attention. Who knew? (We had a hunch.) Check out the full feature and see how our very own PDX is redefining what an airport can be—carpet and all: https://lnkd.in/gD5sPTgN ---------- #pdxairport #portlandoregon #pdxnext #FCMostInnovative

Port of Portland reposted this
Traveling to Portland for the International Mass Timber Conference? Don’t forget to #lookup when you land at the Port of Portland. The new 9 acre, 400,000 square foot #masstimber roof has been open since August and is one more reason why Portland has the best airport in the country! The timber used in the project came from within a 300 mile radius of the airport and was sourced from small landowners, tribal lands, and community forests practicing sustainable forestry. If you want to learn more about the project at the conference, and the future of mass timber construction, come visit Timberlab at booth 522. KPFF Consulting Engineers ZGF Architects
