Transwing VTOL Aircraft
About us
PteroDynamics Inc. designs superior autonomous vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft systems that fly faster and go farther to reach remote locations without runways, even in harsh conditions. PteroDynamics’ Transwing® aircraft is unlike any other VTOL system, performing like a great fixed-wing aircraft with superb VTOL capabilities. Transwing aircraft unfold their wings to transition smoothly and quickly between vertical and horizontal flight, overcoming limitations inherent in other VTOL designs by combining the speed, range, and endurance of fixed-wing aircraft with superior VTOL performance in an efficient, highly automated platform. The Transwing is ideal for automating time-sensitive delivery of critical high-value payloads to-hard-to-reach locations, including maritime logistics support, payload delivery to remote locations without airstrips, and reconnaissance and surveillance. Seeing is believing. Visit PteroDynamics.com for details and videos.

What makes PteroDynamics’ Transwing able to execute missions other VTOL UAS cannot? The key is its patented transverse folding wing design. It enables safe and reliable vertical takeoff and landing operations - even in harsh conditions - with minimal compromise to long-range cruise efficiency. Here are 6 things that make the Transwing different from other VTOL aircraft. 1. Compact footprint: Allows for VTOL operations from tight quarters and easy transportation and storage. 2. Gust tolerance: Wind gusts don’t flow over the airfoils when wings are retracted during VTOL operations, plus the Transwing can weathervane into the wind. Unlike with other aircraft, that means altitude doesn’t change dramatically when winds gust or drop. 3. More control to operate in austere conditions: Wings folded around the fuselage means preserved rotational inertia and better control bandwidth, translating to the ability to operate in more harsh conditions. 4. Fast, controlled transition to horizontal fight: While other VTOL aircraft have a complicated transition, the Transwing transitions are rapid and controllable. It can fly below stall speed, and it consumes a lot less energy. 5. Energy efficiency by using the same propulsors for VTOL and cruise: Coupled with rapid transitions, energy is conserved, enabling the Transwing to fly longer and faster. 6. Inherent flexibility to fit different missions: Simple and efficient design allows for flexibility to devote to greater payload weight, range, endurance, speed, or even different cargo and wing configurations. #PteroDynamics #VTOL #Transwing
