Last week, a number of PHAB staff attended #APHA2024 and led some insightful sessions. PHAB's Amy Belflower Thomas presented the results of a public health workforce survey they did in collaboration with Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH). Elizabeth Gould presented on Year 1 of #PHIG. Travis Parker Lee, MBA led a session on using the Foundational Public Health Services (#FPHS) for public health #transformation. As a fully remote organization, we always enjoy connecting in person with colleagues, partners, and others in the field. #publichealth #conference #phaccreditation #phinnovation

Thank you, Public Health Accreditation Board, for putting this panel together at #APHA2024 with myself showcasing how North Carolina is leveraging the Foundational Public Health Services framework alongside Richard Knecht and Sarah Reese from Montana and Minnesota. It was inspiring to hear about the successes other states have also had in using the framework for workforce development as well as some challenges we can work through together. Some nuggets from NC: the framework gives public health leaders a common language to use when talking about public health services, a way to identify needs among our workforce and build programs to strengthen the foundational capabilities, and an opportunity to better tell our collective public health story. #wearencpublichealth #apha2024 #workforcedevelopment American Public Health Association PHAB Communications

Our nation’s future depends on healthy populations, economic security, and thriving communities. The public health system is key to supporting all of these things. But our public health system is at an inflection point. TFAH’s new report, Pathway to a Healthier America: A Blueprint for Strengthening Public Health for the Next Administration and Congress, is a roadmap for the Administration and Congress taking office in January to make the needed investments to strengthen public health, including modernizing the system’s infrastructure and growing the its workforce. The report outlines six priority areas that, if acted upon, will better position the U.S. to manage public health risks and help address the structural drivers of health inequity and disparities that impact the health, well-being, and prosperity of the country. It also highlights public health impact stories and identifies key actions for the next Congress and Administration to strengthen individual and community health across our lifespans. We know what works. Now is the time for our leaders to invest in proven public health strategies. Read the full report https://lnkd.in/euxtMPAJ

In September 2022, #PHAB and the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Public Health renewed their collaborative efforts to strengthen public health practice, promote continuous quality improvement, and improve consistency across departments of public health (DPHs) on military installations (e.g., bases, camps, posts, and stations) through #publichealth accreditation. This collaboration highlights the vital role that military installation DPHs play in protecting and promoting the health of U.S. military service members, their families, civilian employees, and the retired service members served by these departments.
