Public Health Advocates recommends voting YES on Prop 4. This measure issues $10 billion in bonds to fund state and local parks and projects to advance environmental protection, water infrastructure, energy, and flood protection. This infrastructure investment will cut pollution and help us adapt to climate change. And it allocates the money based on need, with 40% of the projects benefiting low-income Californians or those affected by environmental changes or disasters. “It’s not enough to ask individuals to be resilient to climate change. We have to make investments that build more resilient communities,” says Abigail Freshley, MPA, Program Manager for the Emergency Resilience Project at Public Health Advocates. We recommend voting NO on #Prop36. Prop 36 threatens to reverse the progress of Prop 47, which reduced the prison population. Prop 36 is costly, and it won't reduce crime or make communities safer. Full voter guide: https://lnkd.in/g_-wRe7S #NoOnProp36 #PHA2024VoterGuide

🎉 📝 We’re thrilled to announce a giant victory for the health and well-being of our youth! On Friday, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 976, authored by Senator Nancy Skinner, into law. This landmark bill, co-sponsored by Public Health Advocates, is a groundbreaking step toward protecting our children from the dangers of social media addiction. Here's what SB 976 does: • Prevent Social Media Platforms from Sending Addictive Feeds: By 2027, social media platforms will be required to have default settings for minor users that block addictive content, ensuring that kids will only receive content they have searched for, liked, or queried. • Restrict Notifications During School Hours and Sleep Time: Platforms will be prohibited from interrupting kids during school hours and late at night, allowing them to focus on their education and rest. As one of the sponsoring organizations, we’re proud to have stood alongside Sen. Skinner, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, and the Association of California School Administrators. Special thanks to everyone who contacted their legislators and the Governor to urge their support for this bill, as well as those who contributed financially to support our leadership in this effort. #SB976 sends a powerful message that California is committed to protecting kids from social media addiction. We are proud to have championed this effort and grateful to our partners, Sen. Skinner, and Gov. Newsom for their leadership.
