  • Bonnie Sondgeroth, thank you for all you have done for the students, alumni, and industry, supporting them in a variety of capacities. Upon my return as a graduate of the program, it warmed my heart to find that Bonnie had continued the legacy of Linda Yoder, who helped navigate my time at Purdue in the Construction Engineering program. Bonnie embodies the nurturing and supportive culture that makes the program transformational and one of a kind! I greatly appreciate my time working with you. You will be missed dearly. Wishing you all the best in your retirement – well deserved! #construction #engineering #LSCCE #transformational

Bonnie Sondgeroth, known as the "CEM" Mom to many Construction Engineering Alumni, is retiring after 25 years with the program, totaling 27 and a half years at Purdue University. Bonnie first came to Purdue in 1997, where she worked for the Engineering Library and the Business office in the College of Agriculture. When Bonnie interviewed for the Undergraduate Secretary position in Construction Engineering, she had no idea of the lasting impact it would have on her and the students. She gained her nickname "CEM" Mom by simply being herself. In addition to her official duties as the secretary, over nearly 25 years, Bonnie demonstrated and embodied unbelievable qualities. She cared for the students, baked for them, helped advise them, supported them to overcome nervousness in interviews, and even helped sew a button on one student's shirt when needed. The students and connections that have formed bonds and friendships are what Bonnie cherishes the most about her time at Purdue. She has witnessed hundreds of students obtain their degree in Construction Engineering. The atmosphere has been a second family for Bonnie. Upon retirement, Bonnie looks forward to spending time with her husband of 47 years. Together, they have four daughters, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild due in November. Bonnie's last day is August 30th. Stop by to see her if you are on campus. An official celebration will occur at the annual Beta Tau Banquet on April 4th, 2025. Please join us in celebratory acknowledgment of Bonnie. We thank her for years of service, dedication to the students, and unwavering support of our industry/Alumni. The lives she has touched and impacted are numerous and astounding beyond words. We will miss you and wish you the best in your retirement journey. We will always be here for you, as you have been here for us!🖤💛🚂

  • Makarand (Mark) Hastak appreciate the leadership and dedication to the Construction Engineering & Management program over the years! Best of luck in leading initiatives in Indianapolis.

The Division of Construction Engineering is proud to announce the merger of the Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) program with the Civil Engineering (CE) program to form the newly established Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering (LSCCE). This strategic initiative, ratified by the Board of Trustees on April 5th (effective July 1, 2024), is a significant milestone in the College of Engineer’s vision to position Purdue as the most consequential engineering program in the country by 2030. As we celebrate this transformative merger, we take a moment to acknowledge Dr. Makarand (Mark) Hastak for his years of dedicated service to the CEM program. Dr. Hastak’s tenure has seen the program grow and adapt to meet the evolving needs of the construction industry. As Dr. Hastak transitions to his new role as the Associate Dean of Facilities and Planning for our Indianapolis campus, we recognize his contributions and the impact he has had on the CEM program. We look forward to building on the foundation he helped create as we move into this new chapter. We invite you to join us in marking this important transition for the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering. The merger of these two programs promises to create a unified entity that leverages the strengths of both, ensuring increased access to opportunities and resources for our students and faculty. Assistant Professor at Purdue University

🎉 Many Congratulations to my PhD student, (Dr.) Shiva Pooladvand, for successfully defending her dissertation on “The Effects of External Stressors on Construction Workers’ Safety Performance” at the Lyles School of Civil Engineering at Purdue and Purdue University - Construction Engineering and Management. This groundbreaking research, supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and ELECTRI International, bridges multiple disciplines and enriches intersectional understanding of construction safety, AI, human factors, and advanced sensing. Shiva was the first student who joined my I2SAFE lab when I started my faculty career. It's with mixed emotions that we bid farewell as she embarks on her next exciting journey. Working with such a dedicated and hardworking scholar has been an absolute pleasure. Shiva is truly a 🌟 rising star 🌟 , having accomplished remarkable milestones during her PhD: (1) Completed her PhD in Civil Engineering+ graduate certificate in Engineering Education+ Mini-MBA from Purdue University in just THREE YEARS while receiving many awards. (2) Authored 7 journal papers in high-impact factor journals, 8 conference papers, 1 book chapter, and 2 industry reports, showcasing her commitment to academic excellence and intellectual rigor. 💪 Special thanks to her PhD committee members (Dr. Thomas Redick, Dr. Phillip S. Dunston, and Dr. Travis Horton) for their invaluable support and guidance. I am also thrilled to announce that Shiva will be joining Arizona State University (School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment) as a #tenure #track #assistant #professor this fall, 2024. I have no doubt she will continue to excel and make significant contributions at ASU. #SmartSafety, #Stress #AI, #WearableSensors, #PersonalizedWarning Shiva Pooladvand, I am incredibly proud of you and eagerly look forward to witnessing your continued success. #KeepShining

Project Engineering | Building Trades | Purdue Daniels School of Business Integrated Business and Engineering Student

I’m honored to be a part of Purdue University Daniels School of Business and endlessly grateful to the Barton Malow team for the opportunities they have provided me! A special thanks to the Purdue University - Construction Engineering and Management team for all they do to set us up for success as we grow through their internship programs. I can’t wait to see how the future of Construction technologies grows in the IBE program and Purdue at large!! #boilerup

How would Ethan describe his internship? Insightful. Ethan Haeberle (IBE, ‘25) is spending his summer internship at Barton Malow working on essential tasks like reviewing site drawings, planning door installations, and creating tools to track progress on the construction site. Ethan says his time at Barton Malow has given him a broad view of the construction world and helped him grow both personally and professionally. Using software like Bluebeam and Navisworks, he’s learning how to read detailed architectural plans, and he’s realizing how important it is to communicate well. Through hands-on work with the field team, he has gained a better understanding of the process, as well as developing teamwork and respect. His passion for construction has grown and inspired him to pursue sustainable and renewable energy projects in the future. “Getting the opportunity to be on a project of this scale and interact with so many individuals who are eager to impart knowledge has been an extraordinary gift.” #Internships #PurdueUniversity #PurdueBusiness #BoilersInBusiness

Last week, a summer college credit course, “Building the Next Generation of Engineering Leaders in Construction Engineering.” was offered to high school students. Students who attended learned what it means to be a construction engineer. They interacted with industry leaders and learned professional skills that will set them up for success. During the course, they engaged in technical theories in applied engineering with faculty and students and experienced real-world job sites by visiting active construction projects. ✅ Thank you to Pepper Construction Group and BMWC Constructors for the job site visit. Students took what they learned and applied it to this educational experience. When choosing Construction Engineering as a career path, students now know the future internships and job opportunities obtainable because of industry partners like you!🤝
