Community Solar is Shining Brighter in 2024: Affordable, Accessible, and Ready to Power Your Neighborhood! Check out these key trends shaping the future of solar power in our neighborhoods: 1. Federal Support: The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 provides a strong foundation for community solar's growth through its tax incentives, including the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which can now be transferred or sold, benefiting community solar developers. 2. State-Level Expansion: Several states, including Illinois, New Jersey, and New York, have passed or expanded community solar programs in the past year. States like California are also revisiting their regulatory frameworks, which could see an increase in community solar adoption. 3. Virtual Net Metering (VNM) and Utility Buy-in: Virtual net metering allows customers to receive credits for solar generation even when the solar panels are not on their own property. Utility buy-in remains a key challenge, but as more programs prove feasibility, we expect to see more collaborative approaches, such as utility-sponsored community solar, emerge as utilities see community solar as a way to meet renewable portfolio standards. 4. Equity Focus: Increasingly, states are prioritizing low- and moderate-income (LMI) participation in community solar programs. Expect to see more states adopting provisions that mandate a percentage of community solar projects to serve LMI communities, bolstered by IRA funding directed at equitable energy access. 5. Innovative Business Models: Subscription-based models, pay-as-you-go plans, and no-credit-check financing are becoming more common in an effort to make community solar accessible to a broader range of consumers. Want to make a positive impact and save on energy? Now’s the time to join the solar revolution! Ready to power up your community? Let’s talk about advocating for community solar! Community solar projects bring clean, renewable energy to neighborhoods, making solar accessible for everyone—no rooftop required! To support these efforts, here’s what you can do: • Contact your legislators: Call, email or send a letter to your state representatives to voice your support for community solar legislation. Mention the economic and environmental benefits. • Join advocacy groups: Organizations like the Coalition for Community Solar Access (in Wisconsin) or local environmental coalitions can amplify your voice. • Attend hearings or town halls: Being present at committee hearings or town halls shows legislators that there is strong public support. • Spread awareness: Use social media or community platforms to share information about the legislation and encourage others to take action. • Word of Mouth: Tell your neighbors, friends and family about community solar and how they can help support legislation in your state. Together, we can harness the sun’s power for everyone in our community! Let’s make clean energy accessible—one solar panel at a time! Use our convenient templates and social media kit to start advocating today! World Energy Savings Day is celebrated on October 21. By adopting energy efficient habits and making changes to electricity consumption, we can make a difference in creating a more sustainable future. Five ways to increase your energy efficiency and save on your bills are: 1. Switch to LED Lighting – While these bulbs are pricier, they will save you money in the long run. 2. Get a Smart Thermostat - Customized heating and cooling schedules, ensures you are only running your systems when needed. This results in major energy savings over time. 3. Upgrade to Energy Star Appliances - Energy Star appliances can reduce your home appliance energy usage and costs by as much as 10-50%. 4. Wash your clothes in cold water - About 90% of the energy the washer uses goes to heating the water, therefore, switching to cold water results in lower electricity bills. 5. Consider Community Solar - Households and businesses can access the benefit of solar energy without hosting a system and in turn receive a minimum of 10% off their electricity bills. With small changes in our day to day lives, together we can create a more sustainable future. #worldenergysavingsday #communitysolar #cleanenergy #PureSkyEnergy #solarenergy #solarpower #sustainability

Owning a home is one of the biggest investments for most people and now there's a new risk factor to consider: climate change. The Washington Post did a deep dive into how climate change may be repricing many people's most valuable asset, their home. The WP analyzed home value and sales trends in Florida within a mile of the coast from 2000-June 2024. What they found is that there could be a looming climate correction in housing prices. - In Miami homes at the lowest elevations are appreciating more slowly - In California, Oregon and Washington, wildfire risk has reduced home prices by 3.9% - U.S. coasts, properties vulnerable to sea-level rise sell for 7% less than safer comparable homes. What are the risk factors you should look for? - Coastal Flooding - Inland Flooding - Hurricanes - Heat - Drought It's not just the value of your home that is impacted but the cost of insurance or even whether you can get insurance. All-in-all, the impacts of increasingly volatile weather patterns cannot be ignored. #realestate #climatechange #riskmanagement #homeowners https://hubs.la/Q02TJJYy0
