  • It is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Meet our Breast Navigator, Kaleigh Carrico! What does your role do? As the breast nurse navigator I do my best in providing an extra support resource for our patients who encounter breast cancer. I get the pleasure of meeting with these patients to help them understand what their upcoming days, treatments, and appointments may look like with hopes to alleviate the anxiousness that can come with their diagnosis. I have the pleasure of following these patients throughout their journey to ensure all of their questions are answered, their needs are met, and they are getting the best possible care they can get. I strive to provide as much support as I can as the breast navigator by providing community education with prevention and screening, answering questions, and educating on hospital resources that are available. It is my goal to ensure every patient I encounter feels like their health is our priority while providing full support and guidance throughout their health journey. What is the best part of your job? The opportunity to meet these patients and build a relationship with them is the absolute best part of this job. They become family and to know these patients trust us with their care is a feeling that is indescribable. I am honored to be able to have conversations with our patients and to be their listening ear, their shoulder to lean on, and their hand to hold when things seem so uncertain. Why did you choose the cancer center? Being able to provide care to patients who truly appreciate nurses makes this job so incredibly enjoyable. The patients want you there just as much as you want to be there. Cancer is an awful disease and it's even more awful to watch the pain patients and their families encounter throughout their cancer journey, being an oncology nurse gives me the gift to provide a small brightness during a dark time. I get to experience courage every day our cancer patients walk through our doors and how admirable is that!? For more information, visit us at www.pchosp.org
