#abtwassenaar #parisproof #constructies #constructions #duurzaambouwen #quake #hackathon

What is the impact of installations on the embodied carbon of materials? How can we approach Paris Proof buildings from installations perspective? At an innovation day of Quake, colleagues from all Oosterhoff operating companies came together to bring together their insights.   Although environmental data for installations is still limited, there are already some insights into the impact of system and material choices based on the available EPDs and common sense. The biggest difference can be achieved through a sharp program of requirements and early consultation with an integrated view at building level to smartly integrate the climate concept. The performance of installations with regard to energy performance, health and maintenance will always remain central. We will further elaborate this and soon share our first insights in more detail!

🌍 Exciting News from Save the Homes! 🏡 We're excited to share the latest edition of the Save the Homes newsletter, shining a spotlight on the remarkable developments in Valencia, one of the pilot cities. In Valencia, the monitoring campaign assessed 23 dwellings, focusing on two key scenarios. For homes without renovation measures, Save the Homes aimed to improve awareness of renovation needs and build trust in the process. For homes with energy improvements, Save the Homes compared energy performance before and after renovations. Each monitored dwelling received a tailored report with personalized recommendations, contributing to a more sustainable and comfortable living environment. In this edition, Save the Homes delves into three key areas: 1️⃣ Reports of the Monitoring Campaign 2️⃣ Thermography Photography Training 3️⃣ Training VRCP Stay tuned for the newsletter, and let's work towards a brighter, greener future! 🏠🌱 #SaveTheHomes #HomeRenovations #Sustainability #Innovation #ChangeToImprove

Because we spend a lot of time in buildings, our relationship with nature is disrupted. This 'nature deficit disorder' is reinforced by the use of sustainable technology. According to Jaap Wiedenhoff (advisor at ABT bv/Quake, part of Oosterhoff ), we pay too high a price for this, he shares with Harm Tilman, editor and expert in the field of architecture and urban planning. Therefore: outside is the new inside. 🏡 🌳 To understand this, we may have to go back to the 1960s when the idea of a completely regulated environment gained popularity in architectural circles. Thanks to the invention of central heating and air conditioning, life in a fully conditioned interior, or bubble, became within reach. Living in such a bubble, bladder or atmosphere was seen as progress, but also as the future of architecture. Now 50 years later, Jaap rightly questions this. After all, the promise of comfort has been fulfilled, but the price we have to pay for this is high, perhaps too high. With all the measures taken since the 1990s, energy consumption should only be 20%. However, Jaap and his colleagues calculated that it has actually increased by 70%. ▶ Read more about the consequences of this and possible solutions. #quake #abt #oosterhoff #dutchdesignweek #ddw #naturedeficitdisorder #urbandevelopment #engineering #urbanengineering #buildinghealthy

We look back at a succesful exhibition at the Dutch Design Week! Our advisors Jaap Wiedenhoff and Diana de Krom share in this video the relevance of 'Nature Deficit Disorder'. The exhibition was created by our colleagues of Quake/ABT bv (part of Oosterhoff ). Jaap Wiedenhoff, senior advisor building physics, intallations and fire (ABT bv/Quake): “We want to show how human behaviour and behaviour initiated by the urban environment affects our mental and physical health.” Diana de Krom, structural engineering manager (ABT bv/Quake): “We have people experience this by showing them three different rooms. They can also hear them, feel them and smell them.” ▶ Check it out in this video! “Throughout our evolution, we’ve spent 99.9 percent of time in nature. Our physiology is still adapted to it. During everyday life, a feeling of comfort can be achieved if our rhythm are synchronized with those of the environment.” ~ Yoshifumi Miyazaki We spend >95 percent of our daily lives inside a building. 'Nature defecit disorder' is not a disorder but a metaphor to explain how less interaction with nature has led to diminished use of sense, physical and mental illnesses, attention difficulties, obesity, vision problems (myopia), vitamin D deficiencies, and other health-related issues. In an age where we increasingly confine ourselves indoors within urban settings, it becomes imperative that we seek ways to reintegrate our lives with our environment nature, climate, and people, and its innate benefits. Our exhibition ‘Nature Deficit Disorder’ at Dutch Design Week offers you the chance to experience 3 spaces from now and the future. The exhibition is created by our colleagues of Quake/ABT bv (part of Oosterhoff  ). #quake #abt #oosterhoff #dutchdesignweek #ddw #naturedeficitdisorder
