The Clean Energy Buyers Institute, involved in 90%+ of corporate clean procurement, have launched their Principles for Purpose-Driven Energy Procurement. It turns out that the impact on public health, ecosystems and the economy varies dramatically between clean energy projects, based on location, transmission and distribution impacts, the grid mix that is being offset, whether the emissions offset are upwind of millions of people and ending up in their lungs or downwind of densely populated areas and ending up in the desert... These Principles present a new framework for corporate energy decisions, where impacts on profit, people and the planet are all quantitatively considered. I'm advocating that this new framework is not just what the energy industry needs, but also what capitalism needs to become more equitable and sustainable. Congratulations Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA), Ornella Nicolacci Phoebe Romero Sofia Mongeon on taking this big and bold step

📢 Another clean energy leader signs the Principles for Purpose-Driven Energy Procurement! Quantum Energy, Inc. joined our call to action for a sustainable, resilient, and equitable energy future. CEO at Quantum Energy I Optimizing energy decisions

Progressive ranchers are putting a dent in the 355,000 deaths related to burning fossil fuels in the U.S. A recent study from Harvard found that the particulate matter emissions from burning #fossilfuels were killing 8.7 million people per year, 355,000 of which in the U.S.  Around 2.8 million people die per year in U.S., so if that study is accurate, we’re talking about 1 in 8 deaths in the U.S.   A group of progressive ranchers in Arizona are putting a dent in those deaths. They leased a portion of their land to six energy developers who are developing the largest #wind and #solar project in the U.S. Part of the project has been permitted, the other half is in the process.  Like in many areas, nimbyism and opposition to clean energy are stalling and threatening the permitting process. An unfortunate statistic is that ~79% of renewable energy projects in the US die in a permitting or interconnection queue, and this is at a time when we need to deploy clean energy faster than ever. These progressive ranchers hired Quantum Energy, Inc. to simulate the avoided emissions and impacts to public health, ecosystems and the economy of their project. Two weeks ago, we presented the results to the energy developers, utilities, state and federal agencies involved. The results? If fully developed, the project would save nearly 10,000 years of life (this is like 2,000 people getting an extra five years of life) in it’s first year of operation, along with saving 10+ local species and bring $1.8 billion in economic benefits. The response? The permitting officials said this was exactly the data-driven evidence they needed to justify their decisions. Corporate, government and utility decision-makers have lacked insight into the #publichealth and #ecosystem impacts of their energy decisions for too long. Why? Current tools require terabytes of data, years of analysis and teams of experts to use. That’s why we developed the TotalView Energy Platform. A platform that puts the public health, ecosystem and economic impacts of energy decisions at the fingertips of analysts and decision-makers. Above is a picture of us signing a blade of the wind farm with the ranchers, who just might be the most progressive #landowners in the country. We have a few more pilot projects available subsidized by the National Science Foundation. Interested? Join our free beta: https://lnkd.in/gJbdNhRS Let’s put a dent in those deaths.
