About us

We believe that the health insurance industry should do far more than just provide access to doctors and cover or administer claims. We believe health care plans should help people live healthier. Which is exactly what makes us different. As a health plan management and administrative services company, we’re leading the charge on everything from expanding network physician and provider options to creating innovative approaches to wellness, prevention and community well-being. That’s because at Quartz, we’re a company committed to good health. Beginning in mid-2017, Gundersen Health Plan, Unity Health Insurance and Physicians Plus joined forces under the Quartz brand name, with Advocate Aurora Health joining us in 2021. Together, we provide our members with high-quality service and affordable coverage. We manage services for those health insurance plans as well as provide administrative services for self-funded health plans as Quartz ASO, while serving 350,000+ customers who live in southern, eastern and western Wisconsin, parts of Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota from offices located in Onalaska and Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Quartz is a proud sponsor of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County! Throughout the year, we partner with this special organization for events that raise the funds needed to run youth development programs for kids and their families in our community. This summer, Quartz supported the White Party and the Move’n’Groove 4BGC event! This year’s White Party was especially meaningful as we honored Vel Phillips, a Wisconsin native and first woman and first African American to be elected to the office of Wisconsin Secretary of State. And of course, there’s no better way to spend the day than at the Move’n’Groove event as we walked, biked, and ran with our Madison neighbors to make a difference for our local youth.

Giving back to the communities we serve is a big part of who we are at Quartz. As part of our work-life benefits, Quartz employees receive additional PTO for volunteering opportunities during their working hours. Jody McClain, manager of our Coding Integrity Unit, shares how using her volunteer hours helping the Badger Honor Flight has made a difference in her life. What is the Badger Honor Flight, and what do you do for them as a volunteer? “Badger Honor Flight is the regional affiliate of the Honor Flight Network. Their mission is to take WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veterans to Washington, DC, to see the memorials built in their honor. This is at no cost to the veteran. I serve on the Board of Directors and am the Director of Flight Operations. My responsibilities include the scheduling, coordinating, and logistics for the entire day in DC, including the charter airplane, buses, United States Park Police, Memorial stops, meal delivery, and itinerary. To date, Badger Honor Flight has transported over 4,600 veterans to D.C. on 54 missions.” Why is the Badger Honor Flight important to you? “I have always been a huge supporter of all things military. My dad was a Navy Veteran who served during WWII. I have several other family members who have served or are serving. I started volunteering with Badger Honor Flight in 2010 to honor my dad. He passed in 2008 and never got to see the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. It’s important to me to give back to those who fought for our freedoms.” What role has Quartz played in supporting your efforts? “After starting at Quartz, I joined the Military Service Members ERG. (Fun fact: You do not need to be a military member to join the Military Service Members ERG!) I invited the Military Service Members ERG and Quartz to regularly participate in our send-off ceremonies before a flight. Before the ceremony, volunteers pack 200 breakfast bags and give them to veterans and their guardians as they board the plane. It is a great opportunity to use volunteer hours and interact with the vets before they head off on their Honor Flight. Additionally, Badger Honor Flight recently raised funds to replace our wheelchair fleet. The Quartz Military Service Members ERG donated funds to sponsor a wheelchair. My volunteer work with Badger Honor Flight has filled my cup in a way I never thought possible. I appreciate Quartz’s support for our veterans and military, Quartz employees for their volunteer hours, and our community for coming together for this cause.” Learn more about our company culture and our employees’ role in the community: https://lnkd.in/g2Et6qpy

Today is National Disability Independence Day. In honor of the day, we recognize and celebrate the significance of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a vital civil rights law that safeguards the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities. To mark this milestone, Quartz employees shared quotes and messages that inspire them.

    • Text reads: "The ADA has provided SO much to my family members, allowing them access to things they'd never have had access to before. I am so thankful for this day!" Attributed to Emily Evans, Associate Business Analyst – Analysis and Implementation. The background is teal with a light spray texture on the top edge.
    • Text reads: "Universal design and accessibility is what allows for independence. Don't wait until someone asks for something. If it can be designed to accommodate more people, just do it." Attributed to Allegra Jensen, Senior Training and Education Specialist.
    • Quote reads, "A lot of disabilities are invisible, your reaction isn’t," attributed to Unknown. Below, Anessa Suhr is credited as Manager, Pharmacy Govt Ops.
    • Quote reads, "If you truly believe in the value of life, you care about all of the most vulnerable members of society." - Joni Eareckson Tada. Attributed to Rosalyn Johnson, HR Business Partner.

Quartz is committed to volunteering and making a positive impact in the community. Recently, Camp Brandenburg, a local Girl Scout camp, called for volunteers to help with preparations for the upcoming stay of the Girl Scouts in July. Our dedicated interns and team members eagerly seized the chance to clean up the trails and make a valuable impact. "Our full-time employees are granted 16 hours of volunteer time off, which is a great benefit. We have many employees who go beyond that and who remain very active in the community. It is important for our interns to get out in the community during their time with us and experience the impact Quartz is making in the communities we serve," says Olivia Stoffels, Quartz Talent Acquisition Specialist and Internship Program Manager.

Carola Gaines, Quartz Community Advocate & Liaison Manager, attended the Juneteenth celebration in Madison last month. For 35 years, Madison has celebrated the historical Juneteenth event, which promotes unity and celebrates pride within Madison’s diasporic Black, Afro-Caribbean, and African communities. The celebration brings together the community for a parade, Black community vendors, health and resource tents, civic and church activities, a children’s play area, and a main stage featuring entertainment and heritage announcements. Quartz proudly supports this event to help our communities shine brighter.

    • A person stands smiling in front of a large, vibrant banner celebrating Juneteenth. The banner features a bold, yellow outline of Africa on a red background, with a star inside the continent. The top of the banner reads "The Juneteenth" in large, white letters, and the bottom of the banner has the text "celebration" in black against a yellow stripe. The individual is holding a small sign with "Quartz" written on it.

We were honored to join the Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation, e-Platinum Health, and to attend the Meriter Pro Am and the Spence Jensen Classic Fundraiser benefiting Opportunities Inc. this month. These events allowed us to connect with community leaders and contribute to causes that align with our mission to create a life well-lived within reach for all. Thank you to everyone who attended!
