🌟 Yesterday was momentous! 🌟 I was invited to The White House 🏛️ to brief leaders from the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Council of Economic Advisers, The White House. Our discussion centered on a critical issue: expanding economic opportunities and investments in #LGBTQ+ #entrepreneurs. 🌈 📈 The potential for innovation and economic growth in our community is immense. By investing in queer entrepreneurs, we will unlock new avenues for progress and create a stronger, more inclusive economy for everyone. This briefing was just the first step. A big thank you to the leaders who are taking action. Especially Patrick Driscoll and Kate Balcerzak for making this briefing happen, to StartOut board members Lorine Pendleton and Vivienne Ming for joining me and Amy Siskind as speakers, and all the incredible partners who joined us at the table! 🌈 The Chicago chapter of Queer VC is officially launched 🌈 Huge shoutout to Abbie Strabala and Liam Vernon Silk for traveling to Chicago to help me kick this off! When I first heard that they were trying to build a community for LGBTQ+ Investors, I was thrilled and immediately wanted to get involved. I really am excited to be leading the Chicago chapter, and I am already eagerly awaiting the next dinner 🍽 According to a Feb 2023 survey, 79% of investors conceal their sexual orientation. Initiatives like Queer VC are critical for the venture ecosystem because it provides a safe space for LGBTQ+ investors to talk through very real challenges when it comes to bringing your whole self to work. We had such incredible conversation around what it means to be queer in the workplace and the greater venture ecosystem, and I walked away feeling inspired and empowered.
