This year’s presidential election takes place against a backdrop of escalating attacks on racial equity and the communities it serves. Banned books, attacks on critical race theory, the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, the dismantling of Affirmative Action, attacks on gender-affirming care and on trans and non-binary folks—all of these interconnected attacks have caused deep harm to communities most impacted by systems of oppression and racism. Our next #RaceAnd conversation will explore the path forward for racial justice. This will be a space for you to: • Analyze the election results and their implications for racial justice work and the broader movement. • Identify threats and opportunities for the racial justice movement in light of the election outcomes and the larger response by influential groups. • Discuss next steps for organizations and leaders working to advance racial justice post-election. Be sure to join us, Wednesday, November 13, 3 pm ET | 2 pm CT | 12 pm PT. https://lnkd.in/e5zfDupr

Dominant or malignant narratives in medicine limit our understanding of the root causes of health inequities. So how can we transform them to advance health equity? Step into a better understanding of our role as health care professionals in identifying harmful dominant narratives and moving beyond individual action to advance health equity. Race Forward and Americans for the Arts express sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in our inaugural Cultural Week of Action on Race and Democracy! In partnership with local communities, #CWA24 united people around the nation to spark action towards achieving racial equity. The Cultural Week of Action was an incredible week of events and community building. We’re inspired by how folks across the country came together to envision “Building the Bigger We.” In March, we received 375 applications from projects that best align with the #CWA24 theme. Through a competitive process, we selected 14 projects that best represent our country’s diversity, innovation, and uniqueness. St. Louis gave us a warm welcome for our kick-off event on September 27, including performances from Saint Louis Story Stitchers, Philip Woodmore, PhD and the Phil Woodmore Singers, and Gangstagrass. We also heard from movement leaders Favianna Rodriguez, R-SON the Voice of Reason, Rinku Sen, joseph orzal, and LaKeySha Frazier- Bosley. And that was only part of the magic! A total of 64 events were held across the country, including global participation from Finland and Brazil. Folks joined together to reinforce the vital role of arts and culture in imagining a more just future. The energy, momentum, and excitement around this is clear. We’re excited to take the lessons from this first year to make next year’s week of action even more impactful. Sign up for our email list for the latest info about #CWA24, arts, culture, democracy, and racial equity! https://lnkd.in/eSd2MyGb
