As kids throughout our region prepare to return to school, we want to thank Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada for all the great work they are doing for our communities.   Their Operation Backpack program provided brand new backpacks, filled with age-appropriate supplies, to over 4,500 students for this school year. For kids impacted by homelessness, poverty and living in the foster care system, having the right tools gives them the confidence and courage to succeed in school. We are so proud to support VOA and their impactful work.   And don’t forget - the Raley’s Extra Credit grant cycle is open for about one more week. Applications close on 8/31. A look into last week! Teachers and Ag in the Classroom staff joined forces (and went on a few field trips) during our annual What's Growin' On? writing meeting. We distribute 100,000 copies of this interactive resource to students statewide every year. It's a fun and visual way to teach and learn about California agriculture. This week, Raley’s, the Sacramento Kings and Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada joined forces for VOA’s 2024 Operation Backpack Drive. Team members volunteered to assemble 2,550 backpacks filled with school supplies to ensure that homeless and at-risk youth in our local communities return to school with the basic supplies they need. In February 2024 we partnered with The Dairy Council of California and Legacy Healthy Endowment to launch My First 1,000 Days Initiative, where we provide culturally relevant nutrition education, resources and funds for mothers and families with children between 6 months and 2 years of age. These funds are used to purchase nutrition dense milk and dairy foods at our Raley's, Bel Air and Nob Hill stores.    Last month we had the opportunity to conduct a media event at our Newman, CA store, where Store Team Leader Debb Long and team have been championing this program!    All coupons go through our Something Extra loyalty program and is available to participants at all our stores!

Raley's is partnering with the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom to give teachers the opportunity to Taste and Teach! Selected teachers will receive a binder of helpful resources, including instructions on leading students in a taste test while meeting California Academic Standards. Earlier this month, we were able to take a tour of PRIDE Industries' Roseville operations facility. We learned about their packaging and fulfillment services, supply chain management services and much more. What were you doing in 1974?   That's when Craig Wong started his first job at Bel Air Markets and is now celebrating 50 years working with the company!   Throughout is career, Craig has worked in IT, Bel Air #501 in Sacramento as well as the Bel Air Support Center. He is a well-known resource to many, and a beloved member of his team. Last week, they celebrated him with lunch and a delicious Raley's cake while exchanging fond memories of the past 50 years of his journey with our amazing company!   We are grateful that he continues to enjoy the work and chooses to work with us each day!
