I was on a zoom with Jesse Crosson a couple days ago when he told me he would be driving through Salt Lake City. We’ve been doing our #1in3 campaign for a couple of years now to raise awareness of how common it is to have a criminal record. We’ve connected with people from all over the country, but we rarely get to meet people in real life! So, when Jesse said he was coming through town, the Rasa team jumped at the opportunity to host him at our office for coffee and donuts (which in retrospect, feels very law enforcementy 😂). The stories of justice-impacted people are all incredible. And so are the things they have overcome. But the thing I appreciate most about Jesse is his radical vulnerability and choice to use his platform for #change. If you haven’t heard of him, you should check him out. I’ve tagged him here, but #TikTok is more of his platform than LI. He talks about his 18 years of incarceration, what it felt like to get released, the barriers of a criminal record, the strange feeling of being able to make choices again, and how his national #nonprofit connects people inside to #mentors who can help and maintain that connection when they come home.
