Razom Volunteers Targeted in Airstrikes While Delivering Aid in Sumy Region 💔 On the morning of September 13, Razom’s volunteers came under heavy airstrikes while delivering humanitarian aid to Yampil Hospital in the Sumy region. As they were unloading supplies, two air-dropped bombs (KABs) exploded just 100 meters from the hospital. Thankfully, the volunteers and hospital staff escaped serious injury. However, the hospital’s windows were shattered, and vehicles, along with the much-needed aid, were damaged by shrapnel. Immediately after the attack, the hospital began receiving injured civilians, mainly women, children, and the elderly. Under extremely difficult conditions, the medical staff provided urgent care, even relocating to the hospital’s basement for safety. Yampil, located just 7 miles from the Russian border, has been enduring nearly daily airstrikes, according to local residents. In response to the worsening situation in Sumy and nearby regions, Razom for Ukraine launched an emergency program to supply hospitals in Sumy with essential medications, orthopedic equipment, and other critical materials. With today’s delivery to Yampil and previous deliveries to Sumy, Khotin, Shostka, and Hlukhiv, Razom has now provided nearly 10 tons of humanitarian aid, valued at $200,000. #RazomHealth: Expanding Orthopedic Support in Ukraine ❤️ In 2023, Razom Co-Pilot expanded its goals to include orthopedic care, responding to the alarming statistic that 65-71% of war-related injuries affect the limbs. Through connections with experts like Luke Tomycz , Ellen Bedenko, and the Face to Face group, we onboarded world-renowned orthopedic surgeons Dr. Roman Hayda, Dr. Craig Silverton, Dr. Hudson Berrey, and Dr. Benjamin Berenfeld bringing their expertise to Ukraine. Partnering with these U.S. specialists, we launched critical trips to train surgeons and provide advanced care across Ukraine. In 2024, we organized a bone deformity correction training for 30 orthopedic surgeons from around the country and supported surgeries in multiple hospitals. Our team, including Dr. Craig Silverton, Dr. Olena Daniluyk and Dr. Hudson Berry, Victoria Ygreen, RN, Yulia Shama and Alexandra Domaradsky also tackled key challenges like trauma, amputations, and antibiotic-resistant infections, which are major concerns for patients in war zones. Even in the face of overcrowded hospitals and limited resources, Ukrainian doctors continue to demonstrate resilience and professionalism. 4,300 Lifesaving Kits for Ukrainian First Responders: A Joint Initiative from The Howard G. Buffett Foundation and Razom 🇺🇦❤️ Every day, Ukrainian first responders from the State Emergency Service (dsns.gov.ua) face dangerous situations where every second counts. Risking their lives, they provide critical aid to those affected by missile strikes, saving hundreds of lives amid chaos and destruction. In a recent missile strike in Poltava that leveled a building, claiming 58 lives and injuring more than 300 people, many critically, DSNS (SES) responders were the first on-site. They acted with precision and urgency, applying tourniquets, stabilizing the wounded, and saving countless lives. To keep these brave responders equipped and ready, having enough medical supplies is essential. Thanks to the support of The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and our joint efforts, Razom is delivering 4,300 lifesaving medical kits to Ukrainian first responders. Not just medical tools - these medical kits are the difference between life and death under the most challenging circumstances. Razom was the only independent pro-Ukraine advocacy group present at both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions this summer. At both events, our Advocacy team met with potential appointees in a future Harris or Trump administration, emphasizing that a decisive and just Ukrainian victory is in the best interest of the United States. Impact of 20 Days in Mariupol Across US Campuses 🌟 As 20 Days in Mariupol garnered acclaim and an Oscar win in 2024, Razom Connect, through Razom Cinema and Ukraine on Campus, was proud to support its journey. In collaboration with PBS Distribution, we distributed 50 DVDs to universities across the US, ensuring the film’s message continues through donations to campus libraries. The screenings ignited empathy and activism, demonstrating how art connects us to human experiences during crises. At 50 American campuses, students and faculty engaged deeply with the film, gaining a profound understanding of the war in Ukraine and its personal impact. ❤️ 🇺🇦 Highlights: 🔵 Harvard University: Showcased Mariupol survivor Alina Beskrovna and her war artifacts. 🔵 Montclair State University: Featured a discussion with Michael Levdanski and Marianna Tretiak. 🔵 University of Wisconsin: Led by student Anna Kovalchuk, focusing on personal stories related to the war. 🔵 University of Minnesota: Included survivors and Consul General Beth Richardson. Artem, a 17-year-old Mariupol survivor featured in the film, spoke to a large audience about his experiences. 🔵 CCNY: Partnered with The Documentary Forum for a high-attendance event. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many students moved to tears and gaining a deeper appreciation for the indignities and tragedies of the war. In times of crisis, having the right skills can mean the difference between life and death. That’s why Razom for Ukraine’s team of instructors provided emergency response medical training to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine. These professionals often operate in high-risk areas, documenting war crimes and responding to missile strikes. Over three intensive days, they learned to assess injuries, control bleeding, and provide basic life support — skills that are crucial in emergencies. The training culminated in realistic simulations, making the experience as true-to-life as possible. Many participants are eager to continue their training, and we plan to expand this program to reach even more staff, especially those on the front lines. Together, we’re making a difference.
