RDDC's State of Rochester's Economy was held on Tuesday, September 10th at the Hyatt Regency Downtown. Area businesses and leaders convened for an inside look at the NY SMART I-Corridor (Semiconductor Manufacturing and Research Technology Innovation Corridor), better known as the "Tech Hub". The Tech Hubs program was created as part of the federal CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, aimed at strengthening U.S. economic and national security by investing directly in regions with the assets, resources, capacity and potential to transform into globally competitive innovation centers over the next decade. We are excited to see what this designation will hold for our area. Learn more abou the Tech Hub here: https://lnkd.in/eCdqveQ5 #OneRoc #TechHub

Our members drive our mission, so we were delighted for this opportunity to connect in person and share the wonder that is the Genesee River running through downtown Rochester aboard The Riverie, operated by RDDC member CORN HILL WATERFRONT & NAVIGATION FOUNDATION. We had a great captian and crew who took us down the Genesee to the Erie Canal, where we headed west on a tranquil voyage that highlighted the peaceful, natural beauty of the canal. Thank you to our members and guests who were able to attend and enjoy this incredible evening - and a shout out to one of our newest members, Farmhouse Table, for some good eats on the journey! It's a privilege to be a OneROC alliance partner; we are so grateful for their leadership in economic development for our region. #GreaterRoc
"When we all work together, we win." Tonight, ROC2025, created 5 years ago to ally Rochester's economic development organizations across priorities and objectives, rebranded to OneROC. The past year has been an exciting one that saw the fruition of many labors, including federal tech hub designation and funding. Among our peer group, we increased job growth by 25 positions in the past 5 years. Regional GDP growth climbed by 24 positions. Labor force growth jumped by 10 positions. Unemployment rate improved by 2 positions. This is all thanks to OneROC leadership, funders, and alliance partners (Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Greater Rochester Enterprise, Visit Rochester, Rochester Downtown Development Corporation) that make up this powerhouse team of economic development professionals, of which I am incredibly proud to be a a part. Thank you to the Constellation Brands team for an unforgettable evening, and cheers to the future of #GreaterROC!

“A vibrant downtown is a critical component of our efforts to create a safe, equitable and prosperous Rochester by inspiring hope and delivering opportunity for everyone,” Mayor Evans said in response to the recent updates coming from the Partnership for Downtown Rochester. We want to thank everyone who turned out, stood up, and got involved in the effort for a potential downtown Rochester business improvement district. Over the last year and a half, you showed up at go-to-you tabling events, walked downtown, answered surveys, shared your thoughts at community meetings, and came to office hours to learn more about the possibilities ahead and share your thoughts on what is working and not working in downtown Rochester today. Over 60 letters of support were received from groups large and small -- from small mom and pop shops like Bar Bantam, Vault Fitness, Galleria Pizza, and Season’s Noodle, to some of downtown’s most notable institutions like University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, Garth Fagan Dance, the Rochester International Jazz Festival, and the Strong National Museum of Play. An Update from the Partnership for Downtown Rochester and RDDC: Despite the broadly shared sense of urgency to reinvigorate the magnetic and bustling heart of Rochester, the Partnership for Downtown Rochester (PDR) and Rochester Downtown Development Corporation (RDDC) have determined that there is not presently the political will and majority support needed from Rochester City Council to successfully establish a business improvement district. PDR and RDDC will expand upon its existing fundraising model just as other successful downtown organizations have to create a thriving, welcoming, and inclusive downtown. After hearing over 1,500 responses to extensive community engagement, one thing was loud and clear: people want more from downtown Rochester. More events. More amenities. More small businesses. More attractions. More livability. More activation and beautification of public spaces. A BID is a funding mechanism to deliver on that, but it’s not the only way. We remain fully committed to our mission of driving economic vitality effectively and efficiently in downtown Rochester. With the support of partners like Mayor Evans, Council President Melendez, State Senator Cooney, County Executive Bello, and New York State, and across the private and non-profit sectors, we are embracing the opportunity for new possibilities and forging ahead together. We will continue our work to activate downtown, tell the story, and strategically convene, collaborate, and plan to lift up downtown. Please stay in touch and keep up to date on the latest opportunities to get involved by signing up for the Partnership for Downtown Rochester newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gnejc6fn We hope to see you at an event or out-and-about in downtown soon. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to moving downtown forward, together.
