Reach Out and Read clinicians talk with parents about the benefits of reading with their young children. They show caregivers how to hold books to best engage their children and how to interact with the text and images to help kids follow along. Providers share advice for talking about stories with young kids of all kinds. Families gain a deeper understanding of why they should make reading a daily habit — and leave inspired to cuddle up and bond with their young one using a book. The Albany Public Library just launched a fantastic new program for kids that celebrates diversity and the joy of reading in your first language! Their brand new Children's World Languages collection features over 300 books in Arabic, Farsi, Karen, Pashto, and Spanish! From Frontiers in Pediatrics: Reading for Life-Long Health “There is a strong, positive relationship between childhood literacy and physical and mental health outcomes in adulthood. Through primary care-based literacy interventions, pediatricians reach children and their families long before they enter traditional education venues. In so doing, pediatricians play a key role in children’s school readiness and in turn health outcomes.” This new paper from Frontiers in Pediatrics makes a case for the importance of pediatricians promoting early literacy and recognizes the work of Reach Out and Read. https://lnkd.in/eYKuE7pG
