From BMJ-company’s Archives of Disease in Childhood: “To meet [technological] changes with creativity and bravery, we need minds which are built for adaptation, collaboration and resilience. For decades, the science has been unequivocal that the foundations for such minds are laid in early childhood, making the case for increasing smart investment in the early years stronger than ever.” https://lnkd.in/gU_6CQN3

A world where every child is read to every day.
About us
Reach Out and Read is an evidence-based nonprofit organization of medical providers who promote early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. Reach Out and Read builds on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers to develop critical early reading skills in children, beginning at 6 months of age. Reach Out and Read serves more than 4 million children and their families annually. Reach Out and Read families read together more often, and their children enter kindergarten better prepared to succeed, with larger vocabularies and stronger language skills. During the preschool years, children served by Reach Out and Read score three to six months ahead of their non-Reach Out and Read peers on vocabulary tests. These early foundational language skills help start children on a path of success when they enter school.

"Approaches by health care institutions to address [health] inequities often, and increasingly, focus on social needs screening without linked, robust responses. … Learning network methods hold promise when institutions are confronted with complex, multidimensional challenges. Equity-oriented learning networks may therefore accelerate action to address complex factors that contribute to inequitable pediatric health outcomes, enabling rapid learning along the way." https://lnkd.in/gzNzkuRj

“The prescription for creating a generation of healthier, more socially and emotionally competent men is … to approach boys generously rather than punitively. We need to acknowledge boys’ feelings, to talk with our sons in the same way we do our daughters, to hear them and empathize rather than dismiss or minimize, and engage with them as fully emotional beings.” Want to hear more from “Boymom” author @Ruth Whippman? The new #RORpodcast drops Thursday!
