To mark #BlackHistoryMonth2024, I want to take a moment to celebrate some of the incredible Black disabled figures and advocates making significant contributions to #accessibility and #DisabilityRights. This year's theme, #ReclaimingNarratives, resonates deeply. It’s about taking ownership of our stories and redefining how history is told. While my main role this month is to listen and learn, I also want to spotlight individuals like Ade Adepitan, Kadeena Cox, and Anne Wafula Strike MBE, PLY. Each of them has made an impact not only in sport and advocacy but in highlighting the unique intersectionality of being Black and disabled. At Accessible Me Ltd, we are committed to advancing accessibility and #inclusion every day. I invite you to join me in celebrating these remarkable individuals and to continue working toward a more inclusive society. #AccessibilityMatters #InclusionMatters #BlackHistoryMonth #DisabilityAdvocacy #BlackDisabledVoices

The theme for 2024 is It’s time to prioritise mental health in the workplace. We couldn’t agree more! We all struggle with our mental health at times, and we need to exist in a culture that allows us to go to work as whole people with issues, challenges and crises to deal with. Fitting then that it’s also National Work Life Week! There are plenty of mental health challenges rooted outside of work, but there’s a big one that work can contribute to directly - and that’s burnout. Ignoring burnout can lead to serious, chronic conditions, so if you feel it, reach out to your manager, HR, or a healthcare professional for support. For more information on how you can support yourself and others, check out the Mental Health UK website. They also have some great advice on how to approach your employer about burnout. Safe and inclusive working environments are conducive to good mental health, and Accessible Me will always champion speaking up. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! As we celebrate this important month, I’m proud to stand alongside Accessible Me Ltd in highlighting the contributions of workers with disabilities and the vital need for more accessible employment practices. This year’s theme is #AccessToGoodJobsForAll, a call to action for all of us to ensure everyone has equal opportunities in the workplace. Whether it's through showcasing talent, providing proper training, or making simple yet meaningful adjustments, we can all play a part in creating inclusive environments where everyone thrives. What can you do? 1️⃣ Celebrate disabled talent – Recognise the amazing contributions of disabled team members and raise awareness. 2️⃣ Invest in training – Inclusion isn’t optional! Ensure your team understands disability etiquette and best practices. 3️⃣ Inspire change – Share facts, success stories, and lessons learnt to encourage others to prioritise accessibility. 4️⃣ Meet your legal obligations – Go beyond what’s required by law, and review your recruitment processes to ensure inclusivity from the start. As we continue to work towards a world where #InclusionMatters and #AccessibilityMatters, I encourage you to get involved and make a difference. 💼💡 If you’re not sure where to start, Accessible Me Ltd is always here to help – whether through a disability assessment, training, or guidance on inclusive hiring. Let's use this month to drive progress and make workplaces more accessible for everyone! 🙌 #NDEAM2024 #AccessToGoodJobsForAll #DisabilityAwareness #Inclusion #AccessibleHiring

We are finally waking up to the scale of neurodivergence, but we have a long way to go to reshape our society to suit the needs of diverse minds. Our CEO, Michael Osborne, had often felt out-of-his depth at work, not because he's incapable, but because the workplace is often set up for neurotypical minds to thrive at the expense of their neurodiverse colleagues. So, to celebrate ADHD Awareness Month, we’d like to offer up this blog some strategies that have helped him on his journey, alongside tips to make your workplace more accommodating. Do you have ADHD? Help us understand barriers and accessibility needs by participating in our survey. https://lnkd.in/epYN_fKJ #ADHDAwareness #ADHDAwarenessMonth #Accessibility #AccessibilityMatters #InclusionMatters

🌍 Inclusion and accessibility go hand in hand when it comes to learning. As a Learning Consultant, my mission is to bridge the gap between the two—ensuring that inclusive learning doesn’t just welcome everyone but actively supports diverse needs through thoughtful, accessible design. Last year, I released a series of free modules on Accessible Design to help L&D professionals create learning experiences that work for all, called Accessibility 101. It was fascinating to create and was a great reminder that, to the end user, #ImpactMatters, not intention. We should all be receptive to adapting and improving our design approaches to make that impact a positive one. In October, I’ll be up in Edinburgh attending the LN Mastery Day on Accessible Learning - very excited for Michael Osborne's A11yShip Escape Room Experience! I can’t wait to explore new ways to make learning environments where every learner can thrive. 🔗 If you haven’t checked out Accessibility101 yet, the link is in the comments! Let’s keep pushing the boundaries on inclusion and accessibility in everything we do. #AccessibleDesign #LearningAndDevelopment #LifelongLearning #AccessibilityMatters #ImpactMatters #InclusionWeek
