Calling all advocates, allies, and individuals with lived experiences of disability! At Accessible Me Ltd, we’re conducting research as part of our exciting new project, #A11yShip – an #accessibility-themed #EscapeRoom-like experience designed to put participants in the metaphorical shoes of people with disabilities. Our mission? To raise awareness of how disabilities and medical conditions can create challenges in things being Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust on a daily basis – aligning with key principles of accessibility. As part of this, we're developing a portfolio of detailed personas to represent diverse disability experiences. These personas will help web developers, L&D professionals, and content creators better understand and cater to the needs of people with varying disabilities. Examples include: • Amara, who has cerebral palsy and uses voice-recognition software. • Bao, who is blind and relies on screen-reading software. • Carlos, who is dyslexic and struggles with blocks of text and specific colour combinations. • Deepa, who has broken fingers and cannot use a mouse. But we need your help! We’re inviting people with disabilities, or those who care for someone with a disability, to participate in a short, trauma-informed, and accessible survey. Your feedback will help us create resources that promote inclusion and drive more accessible digital experiences. 🔗 Take the survey: https://lnkd.in/epYN_fKJ If you’d like to contribute or know someone who might be interested, please share and spread the word. Every voice counts as we work toward a future where disability doesn’t limit opportunity! Together, we can break down barriers and create a world that works for everyone. #Inclusion #EqualOpportunity #DisabilityAwareness #A11y #TeamBuilding #AccessibleMe

It’s World Lymphoma Awareness Day, founded by The Lymphoma Coalition to raise awareness about the symptoms of lymphoma, and the impact of living with this unfortunately extremely common type of cancer. Although every type of lymphoma presents differently, these are some common symptoms to look out for. Whilst this is not an exhaustive list, and having these symptoms does not mean you definitely have lymphoma, they are warning signs to get checked out. Living with lymphoma and recovering from treatment can be daunting and exhausting, but there are a number of organisations dedicated to supporting people through their experience. Lymphoma Action have excellent resources laying out all the information you need, should you need it. Supporting someone who has cancer can be difficult: • Be open to what they want to say and how they want to say it • Try not to spotlight your feelings • Respect their wishes • Offer specific help with yes/no responses, rather than ‘if there’s anything I can do…’ Sadly, cancer is part of our lives and it will affect all of us in one way or another. Awareness can help us catch it early and live as best we can with the hand we’re dealt. #WorldLymphomaAwarenessDay #WLAD24 #LetsTalkLymphoma

Because the average person spends 110 minutes on social media a day (would you believe!), it’s not hard to argue that one of those minutes could be spent in pursuit of knowledge that could literally save someone’s life. The British Red Cross are championing an initiative to fill ‘empty minutes’ with valuable learning. For many of us, bite-size learning is the most accessible and feasible way to learn new skills, so head to the British Red Cross website for plenty of age-appropriate resources for the whole family. Check out the British Heart Foundation's free online training that teaches CPR in just 15 minutes. https://lnkd.in/e8VtbDfq 💡 Remember, these skills need refreshing now and again. We might have taken a course through school or work years ago and forgotten everything, including where we filed the certificate! We’d love to hear your first aid stories to spread awareness of the impact first training can have. Share away! ⬇️ #WorldFirstAidDay #FirstAidSkills #LifeSaving #EmergencyPreparedness #FirstAidTraining #CPR #FirstAidTips #SaveLives #HealthAndSafety #PreparednessMatters #FirstAidAwareness #SafetyFirst #BePrepared #EmergencyResponse #FirstAidKit #FirstAidInAction #FirstAidDay2024 #GlobalHealth #CommunitySafety #LearnFirstAid

This is a condition that kills more people than Leukemia and Ovarian Cancer, but have you heard of Pulmonary Fibrosis? Pulmonary (meaning lung) Fibrosis (meaning scar tissue) is a condition affecting around 3 million people worldwide. 🫁 Our lungs are made up of millions of air sacs (alveoli). The walls of these sacs are extremely thin so oxygen can move freely through the body. Pulmonary Fibrosis means thick scar tissue and inflammation build up around these sacs causing shortness of breath and coughing. Until you’re on oxygen, pulmonary fibrosis is an invisible illness, making it even harder to navigate. The more we know about how it feels to live with an illness, the more supportive and proactive we can be. Read real-life stories and #CreateAStir this month on Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis Are you living with PF? Feel free to share your story with us. Hosting an event to raise money? Michael Osborne, CEO of Accessible Me Ltd, has shared a powerful reflection on the difficult balance between transparency and oversharing when discussing mental health in the workplace. At Accessible Me Ltd, we understand that our personal experiences shape who we are as professionals. Michael’s post serves as a reminder that mental health is an important part of building inclusive, supportive work environments. As we mark World Suicide Prevention Day, we stand with Michael in encouraging open conversations about mental health to reduce stigma and create a culture of understanding and compassion. How can you help? • Check in with your friends and colleagues. • Share resources like crisis lines and counselling services. • Support mental health organisations through donations or office initiatives. • Don’t wait - seek help early. Together, we can make a difference. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthAwareness #Accessibility #InclusionMatters #WorkplaceWellbeing

Today I am thinking once again about the difficult line between transparency, and downright oversharing, in my professional life. It would be easier to pretend I have no personal experience with suicide, but in my new role as CEO of Accessible Me, I feel strongly that speaking up about our mental health is crucial to our growth as a society, in and outside work. • Yes, I have experienced mental health crises. • Yes, I have experienced abuse. • Yes, I have experienced personal tragedy. • And yes, these things have driven me to the edge. You never truly know what your colleagues might be going through, so let’s be mindful, kind, and progressive in how we deal with mental health in a professional setting. For the next three years, the theme for this important day for is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide". It’s about reducing stigma and encouraging the kind of candid conversation that in many cases will be the difference between someone being here tomorrow, and not. What can you do? • Check in with your friends - talking about your own feelings might help them open up about theirs • Share helpful links to crisis lines and counselling services liberally and frequently (I have found Better Help a fantastic resource) • Donate to a mental health charity or raise money and awareness in the office with an event to mark the day • Seek help early. There is always someone to listen (The Samaritans) We all know the stats, so let’s act. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #WorldSuicidePreventionDay2024 #Accessibility #AccessibilityMatters #InclusionMatters
