“When you see the destruction and realize you can help, you do it.” A Red Cross volunteer for nearly four years, Debbie focuses on being strong for those affected. She joined the relief effort before Hurricane #Milton made landfall, one of the strongest Atlantic storms recorded. In Tampa, 18 churches and organizations gathered at Mount Olive AME Church to distribute disaster relief supplies, including cleanup kits, food, and water, with the help of the American Red Cross. Over 300 cars lined up as volunteers loaded vehicles with essentials like diapers and cleaning supplies. Reverend Gregory Gay, who coordinated the event, praised the Red Cross for their timely support. Red Cross volunteer Sherlyn Vaughn emphasized reaching underserved community members. Longtime community figure Dayle Greene called the event a “ray of hope,” highlighting the vital role in recovery efforts after Hurricane #Milton.

When Hurricane Milton came through, Jeanne Simays, Karen Kierzkowski, Debbie Maisack, and Lawana Franseen formed an unbreakable bond in a shelter. These four women lived in the same apartment complex for years, but they barely knew each other. “This is silly, but when the ladies come back to their cots (next to mine), I feel like this is home and I’m having company over," said Simays. More than 1,200 American Red Cross responders are with them, providing shelter, meals, relief supplies and a shoulder to lean on. We want to make sure no one faces this disaster alone.

We're so happy that folks at one of our Red Cross shelters are enjoying a Halloween party. It was a chance for kids to dress up, enjoy treats, and feel a bit of normalcy amid the challenges. Even one of our Disaster Program Managers Stuart Dietz aka Count RedCrossula got in on the action. 🙂 The kids were able to bring much-needed smiles to shelter residents, volunteers and staff. Happy Halloween! 🎃

“It’s a lot of hard work ... but I think it pays off...to see people happy because we’re helping out, even if it’s just one meal at a time.” When an EF-3 tornado hit Winchester, Indiana, Jackson Todish, then 17, tried to help but was turned away due to his age. Undeterred, he joined the Red Cross at 18 and volunteered for Hurricane #Helene relief. Paired with Robert Zalewski, they drove an emergency response vehicle, delivering meals to those in need. At Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa, they teamed up with local groups to serve meals, with residents expressing gratitude for their efforts. Todish said helping others has been hard work but deeply rewarding, making a positive impact one meal at a time.

Check out these young philanthropists! Declan, 3, and Theresa, 7, are siblings from Port St. Lucie who raised $203 to donate to the families affected by the recent hurricanes. All smiles with Red Cross Palm Beach and Treasure Coast Executive Director Traci Mitchell. 💞 They were inspired to start crafting beautiful friendship bracelets and began selling them to their friends. Their hard work quickly turned into a fundraising success, they proudly donated the money to a disaster relief organization to help victims of #Helene and #Milton. They acted on their compassion and you can, too! You can help by making a financial donation or signing up to become a volunteer by visiting redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).

“We each play a different part, so when we do it together it makes a lot more sense.” Kristin Burke, Senior Director of Business Development at Feeding Tampa Bay, is experienced in uniting organizations for community support. Feeding Tampa Bay, part of Feeding America, opened a facility offering meals, health services, job training, and connections to nonprofits. Burke emphasized that “feeding” is about more than food. After Hurricane Milton, the Red Cross partnered with Feeding Tampa Bay, which became the disaster response hub in Florida, delivering 1,100 meals together. Burke, a former Red Cross member, praised the volunteers’ dedication, highlighting the collaboration’s impact on hurricane recovery.

We were honored to receive an incredible donation of $500,000 from Bloomin' Brands, Inc. for communities affected by Hurricanes #Helene and #Milton. In a year where extreme climate disasters hit home, we're grateful for partners who bring people together to help. Together, we thank Bloomin' Brands, Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar for their kindness & generosity. ❤️

Red Cross husband and wife volunteers Sherrie and Dave Allen are just now arriving from Oak Harbor, Washington to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts in the Tampa Bay area, one of the hardest hit areas by Hurricanes #Helene and #Milton. They are part of 1,200 trained disaster responders supporting these affected communities. Both are experienced Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) drivers. Dave explains they are super excited to go back to doing what love most: "Interacting with families and bringing them hot meals." We are so grateful for every one of our volunteers. 💞 #VolunteersRock
