Chris Harle, PhD, will be inducted as one of 25 new ACMI fellows on November 10 in San Francisco, CA, at ceremonies during the American Medical Informatics Association 2024 Annual Symposium. Dr. Harle's research focuses on the design, adoption, use and value of health information systems. Over the last 12 years, his research has focused on clinical decision support tools to aid primary care clinicians in chronic pain care and safe opioid prescribing. https://lnkd.in/gp_dCgwY

Jill Inderstrodt, PhD, MPH, was awarded a five-year, $1.9 million CDC grant to improve healthcare for those with congenital heart defects. Brian Dixon, PhD, MPA, also joins the team as a Regenstrief researcher, Fairbanks School professor and interim director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Inderstrodt will lead a multidisciplinary team from IU Fairbanks School of Public Health, Regenstrief Institute, Indiana Department of Health, Riley Children's and local nonprofit organizations. https://lnkd.in/guFfPbqp

To address a workforce gap in nursing homes, Debra Litzelman, M.D., M.A., from Regenstrief and the IU School of Medicine have developed an innovative curriculum for nursing students with the goal of interesting more of them in care for older adults. This study introduces a curriculum, one of the first to use virtual standardized patients, that can be used in healthcare provider training programs worldwide. This training is part of a larger effort to increase the primary care workforce focused on care of older adults. https://lnkd.in/gqRFAZ28

OpenHIE has scheduled its annual community meeting for November 12-16 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The annual event brings together global health professionals to foster connections and share experiences to build digital ecosystems that support secure and accurate information storage and exchange. OpenHIE is a global initiative focused on supporting the use of data exchange standards and the implementation of health system interoperability to improve healthcare in low-resource environments. https://lnkd.in/eHXZu8iw

Dr. Paul Musey is a new research scientist in the Center for Health Services Research at Regenstrief Institute. His clinical research interests surround the evaluation and management of psychological contributors to emergency department treatment. Regenstrief researcher Paul Biondich, M.D., M.S., attended the first in-person Africa e-Health Leadership Forum in Nairobi, Kenya. The forum aimed to build consensus on digital health leadership and governance and to create a community where African e-health leaders can share knowledge with their peers in an open and safe environment.

Andrew Gonzalez, M.D., J.D., MPH, of Regenstrief and IU School of Medicine has been named a 2024 National Academy of Medicine in Diagnostic Excellence Scholar in Diagnostic Excellence. He is one of 11 individuals nationwide selected for this prestigious mid-career program. Dr. Gonzalez will develop an AI method to identify asymptomatic patients with peripheral arterial disease, a leading cause of limb amputations. https://lnkd.in/gi7b9_vv

Regenstrief affiliate scientist Dr. Emily Webber is an IBJ Tech Executive of the Year for her work advancing technology at IU Health. She led efforts to connect care teams and patients during the pandemic, collaborated with the Indiana Department of Health to establish 24/7 Doc2Doc support for pediatric care teams and implemented innovative technology for patient engagement and research support.
