Today, at a news conference held at Veterans Village of San Diego’s Main Campus, Mayor Todd Gloria The City of San Diego, Council President Sean Elo-Rivera, Councilmember Stephen Whitburn, and San Diego Housing Commission Senior Vice President of Homelessness Housing Innovations Casey Snell, Father Joe's Villages, and Regional Task Force on Homelessness announced a new package of initiatives aimed at expanding shelter options and addressing the individual needs of participants on their journey to overcoming homelessness. Key highlights of the initiative include the addition of 363 beds to the shelter system and the implementation of a shelter-focused homelessness diversion effort to free up more beds. Starting December 1, an extra 165 shelter beds will be available for single adult men, seniors aged 55 and older, and veterans at #VeteransVillageofSanDiego (VVSD) through a master lease and contract with the San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC).
