    Employees thrive when they feel appreciated and know their work is valued.. It feels good to do a great job. It feels even better when it is noticed by your boss. In the end, people make companies successful. The seemingly little things you do can go a long way in making people feel special, valued and appreciated. One of the worst feelings is feeling unappreciated. When employees have a boss who truly cares and appreciates them, they are willing to go the extra mile.     The typical bad boss spends their time micromanaging employees rather than empowering them. It’s sad that in many organizations, managers think this is the best method to be effective. Employees want meaningful work, and they want autonomy in how they work. Micromanagement chokes the growth of the employee and the organization and fosters mediocrity. When you empower employees, you promote vested interest in the company. Empowered employees are more confident, creative and willing to go the extra mile. Micromanagement is the opposite of empowerment and it creates toxic work environments. It breeds resentment and disloyalty. If you hired someone, it means you believe they are capable of doing the job, then trust them to get it done. Agree?     I saw a post someone shared seeking employment. He had been recently laid off. There was 0 likes. So I liked, commented and tagged a couple of recruiters. Friday he emailed me to say how grateful he was for my support and he got and accepted an offer. Job searching is emotionally draining. Many individuals here are searching for jobs and when no one likes or comments on their updates, it feels like added rejection. So when you see such posts, share or drop a like or comment. Every little bit counts. You may not be able to get them a job but someone else who might be able to, may see it. This is what LinkedIn and true networking is about. Let's help each other out.     I HIRED a candidate over 50. You can't imagine the resistance I had to overcome. The HR manager was not impressed. She said he "won't fit into our culture," "he is overqualified." etc. I had to put my foot down to get him hired. Everyone is looking for that 18 year old with 20 years experience. He was one of the best hires I ever made. He made a huge difference for the company. You can’t Google Experience. Employers if you want good talent you need to be considering the "Overqualified" candidates. Our society needs to change. All that should matter is if the candidate has the right skills and attitude to do the job. It’s time to stop discrimination on the grounds of a person’s age. Agree?

    My employee RESIGNED. She left to start her own business. This is what I told her. "Thank you for all your wonderful contributions. I hate to see you go, but I am so excited for you, and would like to congratulate you on this new chapter. I wish you every success." Why is it that when someone resigns they are treated like a traitor? When an employee resigns: 1) Thank them for all their contributions. 2) Treat them with respect. 3) Wish them the best. Life is too short. Be happy for others and happiness will always surround you. Agree?

    Toxic company cultures always lack this one thing: Empathy! Empathy is being able to understand the emotions and needs of others. It's putting yourself in their shoes. When a leader lacks empathy, people are left feeling unappreciated, and unvalued. Empathy not only helps to foster a positive work culture but also ensures every individual feels respected, appreciated, and included - all of which are key elements for any successful organization. If you want to increase employee engagement - Show that you care! It’s doesn’t cost much to show employees that you genuinely care, but it can make the biggest difference in keeping them loyal, happy and engaged. Agree?     NO WAY!!! My candidate had a 5 year GAP in her resume. After she interviewed with the client: The feedback I got from them was very disappointing. "Your applicant presented herself very well and seems qualified, but 5 years OFF is a long time, we can’t take that RISK." “OFF”? She had taken the “break” to be a stay-at-home mom when her first child was born. In addition, she was assisting her aging parents. She did not hide this on her resume. She wrote "professional sabbatical to care of my family." AND she explained all of this during the job interview. “RISK”? This is an excellent candidate who kept her skills up to date. Yet all my client could see was the gap. A gap in employment history should not discount someone’s abilities. Shouldn't a GAP in employment be expected at some point in one's career? If a candidate has the right skills and attitude to do the job, shouldn’t that be enough?
