In honor of National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, Reston Hospital leaders and colleagues shared a moment of silence to pause and remember those we have lost, and families forever changed due to fentanyl poisoning. They were our friends, family and community members. We also recognized those who have dedicated their lives to the care, treatment, education and prevention of fentanyl overdoses across our community and here at Reston Hospital. #CareLikeFamily

Reston and StoneSprings Hospital answered the call from local non-profit, @WomenGivingBack, whose mission is to support women and children in crisis on a first step to stability by providing quality clothing at no cost, assisted by a caring and committed community. In response to the need for women’s and children’s spring and summer clothing, Reston and StoneSprings kicked off a month-long clothing drive to support their community. By the end of the month, hospital colleagues had donated more than 175 bags of clothing to Women Giving Back and are ready to help again. “It feels good to help those in need,” said Dee McGuire, Director, Clinical Operations, Reston Hospital and committee member at Women Giving Back. “The HCA mission is a commitment to the care and improvement of human life, and the improvement and care for humans happens inside our hospitals every day,” she said. “It’s wonderful when we can even make an impact outside of the hospital through our colleagues’ generosity with donations, volunteering or giving in other ways,” she said.

As part of HCA Virginia, 48 Clinical Nurse Coordinators from Dominion, Reston and StoneSprings Hospital Centers recently attended the Leadership Development Program held at Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) Medical Education Campus in Springfield, VA. The conference was led by HCA Virginia's Chief Nursing Leadership team to help clinical nurse coordinators develop leadership skills through incorporating HCA Healthcare's nursing strategy. The group focused on how their roles create the best patient experience, while prioritizing care and their own well-being. They also talked about their roles and impact on nursing recruitment and retention. #NurseForward #WeShowUp

We're committed to investing in our nurses. This means investing in the heart of healthcare. With robust support, continuous education and innovative resources, we empower nurses to deliver exceptional care, ensuring every patient receives the highest quality treatment. Last week, Reston Hospital championed our nurses and care teams with the kick-off of our Nurse Forward campaign by "painting the town orange", sharing random acts of kindness and inviting all units to elevate each other's voices today for a healthier tomorrow! #NurseForward

We would like to acknowledge Dr. Joseph Greene, a weight loss surgeon and medical director of Bariatric Surgery at Reston Hospital, part of HCA Virginia Health System, for his participation in an important visit to Capitol Hill earlier this month! On July 12, Dr. Greene, serving as the state access to care rep (STAR) from American Society For Metabolic And Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Virginia, joined other advocates for a Capitol Hill visit geared toward presenting information to key legislative offices about the recent approval of the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA, H.R. 4818) by the House Ways and Means Committee. Also joining the group that day was Veronica Wilson, a patient of Dr. Greene’s who shared her lived experience with congressional staff about her use of both surgery and pharmacotherapy to address her obesity. Dr. Greene and Ms. Wilson were included in a group of advocates who met with six different congressional offices, including Senate Finance Committee members John Barrasso (R-WY), Bob Casey (D-PA) and Mark Warner (D-VA). Their efforts in sharing their insights and experience on the benefits of these treatments are part of HCA Healthcare's continued efforts to advocate for patient care and access. We appreciate their work! #FutureOfHealthcare #HealthierTomorrows

Last week, Reston Hospital Center announced that it had reached a significant milestone in ensuring the highest quality of care for its patients: 1000 days without a single catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). A CAUTI is a common infection that occurs when bacteria enter and infect the urinary tract through a urinary catheter, a tube placed in the body to drain and collect urine from the bladder. Up to three-quarters of urinary tract infections are caused by a placed urinary catheter. The hospital achieved this milestone through the collaboration, focus and commitment to Foley protocols and infection prevention practices from nurses, providers, care support teams and the infection prevention department. Congratulations, Reston Hospital and keep up the phenomenal work!

Last month, as part of division support for the Northern Virginia Community College Medical Education Campus, Reston Hospital Center leaders participated in their NVCC Family and Friends Fest for new students and alumni. We are proud of our partnership with NVCC and other area higher education institutions teaching the next generation of healthcare workers. It was a wonderful opportunity to share our organization’s priorities and employment opportunities with hundreds of NVCC alumni, students, community partners and NOVA enthusiasts there to celebrate the 20 years since the Medical Education Campus first opened its doors in 2003.
