Restore, Conserve and Protect Forest and Tree Cover for NDC Implementation in India

About us

RECAP4NDC focusses on restoring degraded and deforested landscapes and enhancing livelihoods of farmers and forest dependent communities in India. The project is carrying out activities in three Indian states, namely Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttarakhand, and the region of Delhi & NCR. RECAP4NDC contributes to the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) on Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) between India and Germany signed in May 2022. The JDI aims to deepen the cooperation between both countries to achieve the Bonn Challenge, a global commitment to bring 350 million hectares of degraded and deforested landscapes into restoration by 2030. FLR is a paradigm shift in sustainable forestry, since it recognises the intricate relationship between forests and society by finding ways in which degraded environments can recover their health while at the same time contributing to people’s wellbeing. REACP4NDC is an Indo-German project funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Government, with direct commissioning by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and jointly implemented with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India. The project is being implemented by a 6-member consortium comprising Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as the consortium lead, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) India, the Forest Survey of India (FSI), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), the Indian Council for Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
