About us

Ringgold County Hospital opened on April 17, 1951, with 21 employees. Today, we offer the skills and expertise of over 125 employees, many in positions using technology not yet imagined in 1951. Services provided by our 16-bed critical access hospital have expanded far beyond inpatient care. We now provide same-day and outpatient surgeries, infusion therapy, cardiopulmonary rehab, physical therapy, sleep studies, medical imaging and more. The hospital also owns and operates the Ringgold County Ambulance Service and the Mt. Ayr Medical Clinic.

  •  🎶What would you doOooOo for a Klondike bar? 🎶 Wellll, when you have been practicing medicine for 40 years, RCH will treat you to TWELVE Klondike bars. We celebrated our very own Dr. Bruce Ricker who has been a provider for four decades. He spent his first practicing years down in Phoenix before calling RCH home…and believe us when we say we’re so glad he made it back to the Midwest. Congratulations on this accomplishment, Dr. Ricker!

  • Thirty-four years ago, an RCH healthcare legend had his very first day on the job. From stitching up stories to saving lives, Ron Schafer (PA-C) has done it all (and continues to do so!). Before becoming a Physician Assistant, he spent his early RCH years as an EMT, Paramedic, and RT Tech (he even got to work alongside his dad!)– with his dedication and kindness being showcased through every role. Incredible compassion and expertise for the past 34 years is what comes to mind when we think of Ron and his loyalty to RCH and the community. Thank you, Ron, for keeping us healthy and happy all these years! We're so glad you are on our team!!

  • Help us welcome our new interns! We are looking forward to a summer full of learning and growth with the future of healthcare! Mt. Ayr is one of six communities to be awarded a "Future Ready Iowa’s Summer Youth Internship Program" grant. With this funding, RCH is able to provide a hands-on learning experience through five paid internships. Participants will have on-the-job training in healthcare careers in various departments including Purchasing, Lab, MAMC, Med-Surg, and Administration. They will also receive training on employability skills, interviewing skills, resume writing, and financial literacy training. #RCHSummer

Director, Outreach and Engagement at University of Iowa Health Care

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of joining this impressive panel of health care administrative leaders from Ringgold County Hospital, @Lakes Regional Healthcare, and @Cass Health to share best practices on workforce pipeline strategies and successes at the Iowa Hospital Association Iowa Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration conference. Creative and successful efforts are being made to build the pipeline for our health care workforce by many, but much work has yet to be done!
