Meet Edi, a Reentry Program member who joined Rise Up in April 2024! Edi shared his inspiring journey and words of wisdom with us, which you can read on our blog. - https://lnkd.in/d8t-q5Wb "Being here has changed my life. I’m going to keep working hard so my son can look up at a plane one day and say, 'My dad helped make that.' If I can do it, then I’m pretty sure anybody else can; you just have to put your mind to it and be hungry for it." #riseupindustries #reentrymatters #reentryprograms #reentryservices #jobsnotjails #sandiegononprofits

Edi and Tim, we’re so glad to have you in the Rise Up family! Thank you Be a Friend and Lucky Duck Foundation for helping facilitate empowering friendships.
Edi, who was previously incarcerated and currently employed with Rise Up Industries, had spent much of his life without someone to turn to for advice. But that changed when he joined the Be A Friend program. Edi shared with us that he feels blessed to be a part of the program that provides support and friendship to individuals re-entering society. Tim finds great hope in Edi’s determination and drive, remarking, “If Edi gets one-third of what I get with Edi, then he’s blessed.” Be A Friend is a one-on-one supported friendship program that allows our vulnerable neighbors who are at risk or are experiencing homelessness can feel heard, valued and understood. We invite you to learn more and get involved: https://buff.ly/3srHHLi

Today, we spotlight Brian Mason, a Back 2 Work crew member with Five Keys Schools and Programs in San Diego. The epitome of never giving up, Brian, who was incarcerated for over 30 years, is progressing towards a more promising and optimistic future today. Since returning home in May, Brian has accomplished remarkable milestones such as obtaining his driver’s license, reinstating his forklift license, purchasing a car, securing housing, and reuniting with his family. With a couple of months under his belt, Brian is eager to explore career opportunities, particularly within the manufacturing industry. In addition, with the help and support of our partners, Rise Up Industries and Vehicles for Change, Brian is also looking into enrolling in machinist apprenticeships and automotive training. We are so happy to be a small part of Brian’s success. Nothing is impossible! #SecondChances #ReentryAdvocate #ReentryMatters #CleanCA #Empowerment

Today, we celebrate Marty Dominguez! Upon release of his completed 34-year sentence, he was given a bus pass by the Asian Solidarity Collective and promptly joined the Back 2 Work crews with Five Keys Schools and Programs in San Diego. From there, Marty personified the meaning of seizing every opportunity as he jumped on various services' offers, including financial literacy classes, government benefits assistance, housing navigation support, educational workshops, resume building, and guidance on obtaining his driver's license. He consistently followed through on his commitments, making significant strides towards self–empowerment and a brighter future. Marty served as an inspiration to his peers in the program, maintaining a positive attitude throughout. He was soon directed to Rise Up Industries to continue pursuing his goals, where he is currently thriving and forging a path towards a more promising future through their manufacturing apprenticeship. Congratulations, Marty, not even the sky has to be your limit! #SecondChances #ReentryMatters #ReentryProgram Todd Gloria Lon Chhay #ProudToBeBCOE
